In an ocean of pessimistic articles about a self-sufficiant European battery industry, it's relieving to read articles like this. Last week, Finansavisen's Kapital published an article where Lars Lysdahl, partner in Rystad Energy, elaborates on reasons to invest in the European battery industry, and specifically in Norway. With cheap and green electricity, this energy-intensive industry is in advantagous to locate in Norway. Lysdahl also points out that batteries' competitiveness is not only based on price, which is the main source of scepticism around European battery industry. He mentions that lower geo-political risk increases the acceptance for stiffer prices, as well as sustainability. Taking a look at the oil-, hydropower- and aluminium industry, being behind the competitors has not been an obstacle for Norwegian production. There are therefore good reasons to believe that this industry, with is exponentially growing demand, has a bright future. Overall, Nordic Batteries are excited to participate in battery market during this rapid transformation, and provide optimism regarding the centralization of the battery production chain. As Truls Johansen in Elinor Batteries says: "It seems absurd to produce much needed batteries for storing renewable energy, but use fossil energy in the production". The EU has approved €1.4 billion in state aid to accelerate the development and deployment of hydrogen fuel cells, technologies, and infrastructure in seven EU member states and expect a further €3.3 billion in private investments to be unlocked. Despite Sweden's fortunate energy conditions and technological expertise for becoming a leader in the hydrogen industry, the country is not involved in the approved funding. Central and Southern Europe are advancing rapidly in this sector, and it is becoming increasingly evident that our presence there will continue to grow. Estland, Frankrike, Tyskland, Italien, Nederländerna, Slovakien och Spanien har tagit beslut att satsa 1,4 miljarder euro från offentliga medel för vätgasprojektet #Hy2Move. Hy2Move är ett så kallat Important Projects of Common Interest (#IPCEI), som godkänns av European Commission för att stödja värdekedjan för vätgas. Big news for the future of green transportation! 🚛💨 A new hydrogen refuelling station has opened at the The Port of Gothenburg, strategically located at one of Sweden’s busiest truck routes 🚚. This station, operated by Hydri, is the first of many planned to support a national hydrogen infrastructure. With access to green hydrogen, this move brings heavy land transport one step closer to a carbon-neutral future 🌱. MAHLE is strategic investor and development partner of Sunmaxx. Germany’s largest photovoltaic thermal plant is being built on an area of almost 2,000 m2 using more than 1,000 Sunmaxx PVT modules. It will supply the MAHLE plant with green electricity—powered by MAHLE thermal management expertise. “Our joint project shows that the switch to regenerative solutions is worthwhile due to the increasing costs for energy and process heat. Strategically positioned near one of Sweden’s busiest truck gates, Gothenburg RoRo Terminal, this station exemplifies how ports can adapt to clean energy advancements and support a transition to a carbon-neutral transport sector. “The large flow of trucks to the port and the possibility to refuel work machinery make the location for this hydrogen refueling station ideal,” stated Viktor Allgurén, Head of Innovation at the Port of Gothenburg. By integrating this facility with existing electric charging points, the port sets a benchmark for others to emulate in creating a comprehensive clean energy infrastructure. 🚛 🌬 “This refueling station paves the way towards a carbon-neutral transport sector,” added Michel Thomas, CEO of Qarlbo Energy AB and Chairman of the Board at Hydri, the company operating the station.
