Throughout the past six years, she has worked for architecture firms performing ADA compliance plan reviews, completing survey reports, and recommending design remediations ranging from new builds to existing buildings. There are some campaigns that get universal support and others that divide opinion. Humanise is fundamentally about improving our built environment for the better, about enriching the experience of those who use buildings, as well as those who pass by them. Reinstating a sense of civic pride. That’s something I can get behind. The finger pointing -in the book- at architects and at modernism may be simplistic but if we can look past this there is merit in us engaging in a debate about how to improve the expression of our buildings for the purpose of improving our mental health, our environment and our cultural advancement. I’ve contributed an opinion piece to Heatherwick studio campaign arguing that our necessity to address the climate and ecological emergency can actually help us design in a way that enriches our buildings and improve how they look. User Research Case Study Understanding New Yorkers in Relation to Construction by Krystal Ebron The NYC Department of Design & Construction (DDC) provides communities with new or renovated structures such as firehouses, libraries, police precincts, courthouses, and senior centers. They also offer sidewalks, street reconstruction, water mains, sewers, and pedestrian ramps—quality infrastructure essential for a healthy, resilient city. The DDC wanted our help finding ways to better inform the people of NYC about the construction going on around the area. Through observational fieldwork, diary studies, and co-design sessions, we identified ways they could better curate information through various touchpoints, increase awareness about ongoing projects to alleviate inconveniences, and more carefully consider the needs of people with mobility-related accessibility needs.
