💔 Just before Christmas last year I had a miscarriage. Today the Department of Health and Social Care has shared the news that those who experience baby loss before 24 weeks can now apply for an official baby loss certificate. ⚪ I know this is going to help so many! Often, if you experience loss before 24 weeks you're made to feel 'lucky' because it was early. There is no record, just a sad bond you hold with your partner over the traumatic experience you have shared. It's absolute utter bullshit. There was still a positive pregnancy test, symptoms, scans, let alone the physical aspect of the loss itself. 💌 This certificate for me will be the final part of healing. I can officially acknowledge my loss. Although I have lots to say on miscarriage and why it's important to talk about it on a platform like this, today, I just want to share this monumental piece of news in case it can help someone else. 💝 #awareness #babyloss

As we observe #BlackMaternalHealthWeek, it's crucial to shed light on the disproportionate health risks Black mothers face, like a higher risk for preeclampsia and a fatality rate that is 3 to 4 times higher compared to non-Hispanic white women. Early detection and equitable care can change outcomes. Let's commit to empowering women with knowledge and support for better health outcomes.

Today marks the start of Black Maternal Health Awareness Week. Black mothers remain 4x more likely to die in pregnancy, childbirth & postpartum. That's why parents who have lost a baby before 24 weeks of pregnancy in England can now apply for an official baby loss certificate. This is a voluntary service we’re introducing as part of the #WomensHealthStrategy and #PregnancyLossReview to support grieving parents and acknowledge their pain.
