This year marks 17 years of the Avon Race nationwide, where we were pioneers in Mexico in raising awareness about Breast Cancer. This event is a tribute to the women who are no longer with us, a show of support for those currently fighting, and a celebration of those who have triumphed over breast cancer. It's also a platform to spread vital information on breast cancer prevention and early detection. Today is World Waldenström’s Macroglobulinemia Awareness Day! Waldenström's macroglobulinemia (WM) is a rare form of blood cancer. Around 4,000 people in the UK are suffering from this disease, with about 400 people diagnosed every year. There's currently no cure for WM, but there are treatments that can help people manage their condition. Symptoms vary widely among individuals but can include fatigue, breathlessness, numbness, night sweats, easy bruising or bleeding, vision changes, and facial muscle weakness. We're proud to be working with WMUK (Waldenstrom's macroglobulinaemia UK), the only UK charity dedicated exclusively to this condition. They provide a support line and groups for patients & families; offer resources for healthcare professionals; and support vital research so that everyone with WM can live well alongside their disease. A significant challenge in rare-disease research is the lack of patient data, which WMUK addresses through the WM Registry, encouraging individuals with WM to contribute their data to improve diagnosis and treatment strategies. 🚴♀️ Every year, employees at Bristol Myers Squibb come together to demonstrate our commitment to #cancer #research through the #C2C4C initiative. With the goal of raising funds for nonprofits organizations dedicated to cancer worldwide, we've already raised over $16 million for the cause. 📌 Starting in September, the 11th edition of #C2C4C will begin, where around 350 #BMS employees from 30 countries will ride across Europe (Country 2 Country 4 Cancer), the United States (Coast 2 Coast 4 Cancer) and Japan and Latin America (Continent 2 Continent 4 Cancer). 🇪🇸 🇫🇷 In its 9th European edition, this initiative will involve more than 96 #BMS employees passing the torch from country to country, starting C2C4C in Germany and finishing in the United Kingdom. The route in Spain will take place from September 15th to 17th, connecting Girona with Toulouse (France). 🩷 All our #Riders have a clear motivation: they ride in honor of friends and family who have lost their lives to #cancer or those currently fighting the disease. 🚐 🎗 In the past I have participated in the The Shitbox Rally. This is a great cause that looks at raising awareness and much needed funds for Cancer Council, with the Participants over the past 14 years raising in excess of $42 Million Dollars The experience itself was amazing and being able to share that with not only my Brother but others impacted by this terrible disease was very rewarding. The hard work and commitment of every participant is astonishing even though the fundraising can be quite exhausting. After a few of these Charity Drives I had thought I was done. However, Box Rallies recently added a new Charity Drive called the Lunchbox Rally. Much like the beloved Shitbox rally teams raise funds and awareness for Cancer Council, before driving through the rough outback of Australia in a Cheap Classic Car affectionately known as a "Shitbox". Although once again each team is made up of 2 participants, the Major difference this time though is that one of the participants is a child. Our eldest daughter Aurelia (9), who has both seen and helped with fundraising for previous Rallies saw that this was released and wanted to be a part of the Rally family 🙋♀️. In her true style there was a small sales pitch, regarding the Positives, but seemed to forget about the challengers that comes with journey. None the less it was enough persuasion for us to register. When Aurelia was told we had been accepted she even let out a little squeal of excitement, with video evidence now captured for future embarrassment. We have turned to the next steps of the Journey. Trying to find a cheap functioning car can be difficult. Thanks to Grant for holding onto the Indian Pacific which was used in our last Rally. The car appears to still be in good shape and will once again venture into the outback of Australia hoping to once again reach the finish line. We have already started our fundraising, with Aurelia being heavily involved in this process.
