K594 million set aside for 2024 rural electrification projects
This morning, the Rural Electrification Authority held a press briefing to announce the projects it will be undertaking in 2024. A few highlights from the keynote address by our Chief Executive Officer.
1. The Authority has allocated K594,214,177 for the implementation of rural electrification projects across the ten provinces of Zambia.
2. Forty-eight grid development projects to be undertaken this year.
3. Eight new off grid renewable projects to be implemented this year.
4. This will translate into connection of-
28,389 households
252 schools
206 rural health centres
57 markets
115 chiefs’ palaces
39 other public facilities including local courts, police stations, immigration offices, agricultural camps, and national assembly offices.
I'm so excited to be part of the team that tells REA's story. Rural electrification is not just about connecting communities to electricity, it is about connecting communities to possibilities previously unattainable while breaking the shackles of energy poverty #electricityforruralempowerment
