Exciting times in the energy transmission markets. This along with the MISO Tranche 1/ 2 portfolio is an enormous amount of work that will continue for decades.
The Department of Energy today announced a $700 million grant for the North Plains Connector, a joint project between ALLETE; North Plains Connector LLC, a subsidiary of Grid United LLC; and Portland General Electric. The grant is part of DOE’s Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships (GRIP) program to enhance grid flexibility and improve the resilience of the power system against growing threats of extreme weather and climate change. The 400-mile, high-voltage direct-current transmission line will run from central North Dakota to Colstrip, Montana, and be the first HVDC transmission connection between three regional electric energy markets in the nation. “We’re thrilled and grateful to be part of this historic investment in critical infrastructure and excited to advance our Sustainability-in-Action strategy,” said ALLETE Chair, President and CEO Bethany Owen. “We’re always stronger when we work together, as shown by this program that unites government, utilities and private industry for a common purpose.” https://ow.ly/aVkp50SSlEi

Q: What are the primary considerations when selecting the mounting structure for a PV installation? 🤔 When choosing your mounting structure, it generally comes down to three things: 1️⃣ Local wind and snow loads 2️⃣ Your specific roof type 3️⃣ Price For the second installment of our ‘You Ask, We Answer’ series, we asked our Head of Training, Marco Stuckenberger, to tell you why. Unmute the video below to hear what he has to say. 👇 #WeSupportSolar #SolarPower #YouAskWeAnswer P.S. Got a question you want us to answer? LPPC joined the United States Energy Association Energy-Tech Connect Forum yesterday, where Tom Falcone, LPPC’s President-Elect, and Javier Fernandez, LPPC Vice Chair and CEO of Omaha Public Power District, shared insights on load growth alongside Dan R. Brouillette, President and CEO of Edison Electric Institute, and Marc Reitter, President and COO of AEP Ohio. Javier noted that as the CEO of a utility that must double its generation capacity by the decade's end to meet unprecedented demand, he is encouraged by the positive economic implications of expansion. And although dealing with increasing load growth can be challenging for utilities, it’s undeniable that utilities play an essential role in fostering economic progress. When the conversation turned to how leaders in Washington, D.C., could support utilities as they work to meet demand, Tom shared examples of public power systems that are building new infrastructure as fast as possible despite being encumbered by the current system’s inefficiencies. He emphasized the need for streamlined permitting and siting processes to help utilities meet growing demand and advance decarbonization efforts. Thank you to USEA President Mark W. Menezes for hosting yesterday's event and moderating the panel discussion. #reliability #energyfuture #cleanenergy #energydemand #publicpower
