We are excited to announce Athenium as the winner of our Global Fishing Forecast Grand Challenge, presented in partnership with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency! The company took first place and $500,000 of the $1 million total prize pool for their solution to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. Second and third places went to the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence (AI2) and Sync Layer, Inc. “We saw some promising CONOPS and forecasts in the challenge. The challenge winners’ forecasts outperformed the historical Global Fishing Watch baseline by up to 25%,” said Michael Brady, Ph.D., NGA research scientist and program manager for the challenge. “With regular feedback and refinements, these forecasts could be beneficial for operational uses in the future.” Get the full story: https://lnkd.in/eF3Sdip2

The order odonata is divided into two categories; Zygoptera and Anisoptera. Anisoptera includes the dragonflies, and zygoptera includes the damselflies. This is a dragonfly. They have holoptic eyes (both the eyes touch each other at the centre of the head). Wings are held horizontally at rest, around 90° from the body. And the wings have a broad base making them strong fliers. Dragonflies are important predators that feed on flying as well as aquatic insects. They belong to suborder- anisoptera and order odonata. They have three life stages- egg, naid(immature aquatic stage) and adults. They are also referred to as paleopterans as they lack wing flexing(unable to fold their wings at rest), and have numerous veins and cross-veins. One of the most important features is the presence of pterostigmata (black spots) at the coastal veins (anterior part of wings) on both pairs of wings. Excited to share the publication of our review paper on advancing wildlife monitoring using satellite imagery and deep learning! 🌍🛰️🐘 https://lnkd.in/gh7g6ARs 🔍 Through a systematic review, we analyzed the use of satellite imagery and the methods developed for wildlife detection, counting, and surveys across various biomes. Our findings reveal a growing trend in publications, with mammals and birds being the primary focus in polar/alpine and pelagic ocean waters biomes. ⏳ Despite progress, we identified three key bottlenecks hindering the development of on-demand operational approaches for wildlife surveys. In response, we propose and discuss research priorities including wildlife-dedicated satellite constellations, increased data accessibility, or deep learning model integration. 🐘 Our study aims to provide a roadmap for advancing remote sensing in wildlife monitoring, paving the way for transformative survey strategies in the decades ahead. ✉ Feel free to contact me for any questions, experience sharing or further information!
