Flu season is here, which means it’s time to safeguard your health. The flu is a serious, contagious respiratory illness that can cause fever, cough, muscle aches, fatigue and more. This is the video of the March 1, 2024, CDC webinar regarding public guidance to prevent the spread of respiratory infections.  https://lnkd.in/e8y79cgq  Those over age 65 and immunosuppressed are encouraged to obtain a vaccine. Overall, the "we are in a better place now" was used extensively. However, I felt the presentation is not clear on a number of items: 1. The percentage of all adults currently experiencing symptoms of (COVID appears to have increased to 6.8% (CDC pulse survey). This is a huge risk to our society and workforce. https://lnkd.in/e4gcCjE2 2. Although 95% of those in hospitals have not received the updated booster, during this time period less than 20% of all adults have received the booster. The new booster's effectiveness in preventing hospitalizations was estimated in one study at 52%. https://lnkd.in/eW6QwqqC   3. With the large propensity of asymptomatic spread with SARS-CoV-2, I am not sure why we should worry about spreading the virus to others only in symptomatic individuals but not in asymptomatic individuals. Orf, also known as contagious ecthyma or scabby mouth, is a viral disease affecting goats, primarily young ones. Caused by the Parapoxvirus, it leads to the formation of painful, scab-like lesions around the mouth, lips, and occasionally on the udder or feet. The disease spreads through direct contact with infected animals or contaminated surfaces and is more common in environments with poor hygiene or during stressful conditions. Although orf is usually self-limiting, lasting about 3 to 4 weeks, it can cause weight loss and discomfort in affected goats. Vaccination and maintaining proper hygiene are crucial in controlling its spread.
