On the 14th of June, Singapore’s southern shorelines were confronted with a 400-tonne oil spill, after a tanker crashed. Around the world, there have been 27 oil spills since 2020. They endanger aquatic life and contaminate soil, water, and air— and the secondary effects last years. For Singapore, this means dying coral reef, and the suffering of local birds and lizards. Now more than ever, we need innovative solutions that can mitigate the impact of such ecological disasters and reduce our global dependence on oil. Here are some ways that ventures are contributing: 1. Satellite Monitoring🛰️ This allows for more accurate information on spills, leading to more effective responses. 2. Biomicrogels🧫 These break down oils and make oil recovery more efficient. 3. Physical Absorbents🧽 Having absorbents makes oil cleanup much faster, especially over large spills. Continuing to deploy cutting-edge solutions that solve challenges arising from oil spills helps work towards the greater goal of promoting long-term green initiatives. Venture studios like ours can play a crucial role in fostering such ideas. Join us in our commitment to creating a sustainable future. Together, we can make a significant difference in safeguarding our planet. #OilSpill #Sustainability #Agritech #Innovation #Startups

We have a solution. Had a solution. Investors didn’t see the usefulness off it. In hindsight vision is always perfect. This is why Budding Innovation focuses on Strategic Foresight. EcoWorth Tech went under for more than 1 reason, but investor confidence in the in-market applications was the biggest. Cleaning up spills was just one hero attribute of our product, especially when it is mixed in with water and can’t be scooped up. Oily water under the bridge now Let’s focus on the right thing, and not just financial appetite and risk management. #foresight #singapore

In 2021 I reached out to EcoWorth Tech to learn about their technology. I loved the waste to worth approach, where the abundant agricultural waste in our region could be made into a high value material, carbon fibre aerogel, that functions as a hydrophobic oil absorbing wonder material. What was pitched was a filter mechanism for industrial wastewater, so that industry can recover high value organics. But what really stayed in my mind was the founder’s sketch of a tug boat dragging a large CFA boom 🚤 This was the dream, he said. But for various reasons, both mistakes and misfortune, we never got to scale the technology despite our best efforts. Today, Singapore is facing a crude oil spill crisis after an unfortunate accident. The repercussions are far, wide and long lasting. Biodiversity and coral damage will be unavoidable. There’s a deep pain in me knowing that Ecoworth Tech’s technology could have made the difference today. When people question why I invest my own money into the highest risk asset class, Why hardware, Why deeptech, Why climate. Today is why. In the climate hardware space, EVERY success makes a difference. Today it hits hard, knowing that the one that didn’t, could have.

Dutchman Industries is leading the charge in sustainable land management by mastering the process of tree relocation. 🌱 Instead of removing trees and damaging the ecosystem, their techniques ensure that mature trees are carefully uprooted, transported, and replanted without causing harm. This not only preserves the tree but also supports biodiversity, maintains soil health, and reduces the environmental footprint of new developments. 𝐁𝐔𝐓 𝐈𝐭'𝐬 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞 - 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬? Every tree plays a crucial role in reducing carbon emissions, improving air quality, and supporting wildlife. Finding ways to preserve mature trees, instead of cutting them down, is a smart, sustainable approach for urban planning and development. Do you think more industries should adopt green practices like this? 🌿 #innovation #technology #future #management #startups
