As the career fair season comes to an end, we'd like to leave you with one final question: "Why should you consider starting your career at Excel?" We chatted with Kyle, a recent graduate from UW-Platteville and a Civil Designer at Excel, to understand why he chose Excel as the ideal place to kickstart his career. So we were at the Northern Arizona University-The W. A. Franke College of Business career fair last week and had great conversations with a number of soon-to-graduate students, many of which included this question: Why pick a career in #insurance? If you ever thought that the job search was about sitting at a computer and filling out resumes, I want to offer you a look into a different experience. Today is a great reflection of how I manage my job search and a strategy that I have found to be beneficial and balanced. My Schedule: 📚Children off to school- keeping your same schedule is key. It prevents you from falling into bad habits. 🖇️Post on LinkedIn- consistent networking is key, & while we may not always be able to network in person, this is by far the next best thing. 👷🏽♀️ She Built This City opening- supporting organizations in your community & celebrating the wins of others is a great way to keep positive energy so that you can prepare to celebrate your future win in employment. 🎖️Volunteer to help a family whose home burned down- service. People often forget that volunteering IS WORKING. If you aren’t getting paid to work, a great way to continue your work ethic is to volunteer. 📄Attend a career fair- face to face opportunities to speak with decision makers is always a plus. It builds connection, allows you to display your character, and helps you practice for interviews. I’ve attached the job fair I am attending today. If you are also in the job search you should come out also. Remember to research hiring events in your area weekly. Planning for one a week is a great strategy to add to your schedule. 🎓Go to school- I am pro education. I took on the philosophy that if I’m not where I want to be in life, it’s because there is something I don’t know or someone I don’t know that would place me in my desired destination. Even if you don’t go to an accredited program, finding seminars, reading books, or learning from a professional in that field can help you to use knowledge to elevate in your career. Now, I have added in an hour of time for retail therapy lol my favorite mom hack is the Cat& Jack exchange. When you are not working you have to find strategies to save money, but I’ll share more on that another day. Today, I had the privilege of attending an interview with Kelvin Vi Luan Tran, the CFO at TD Bank, during the CPA Ontario career fair- Own Your Future. The interview was a treasure trove of wisdom and insights, and I'd like to share my key takeaways with you: -Self-Awareness Requires Action: It's not enough to simply be self-aware; taking meaningful action is essential. -Flexibility in Planning: Having a plan is crucial, but don't expect it to unfold exactly as you envision it. What truly matters is knowing the direction in which you want to go. -Turning Challenges into Opportunities: Whether a situation is challenging or favourable, approach it as an opportunity for growth. This experience was an invaluable lesson in professional development, and I'm excited to apply these insights to my journey.
