The study below published on International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management reveals that leveraging supply chain exploitation competencies weakens the negative link between disruption triggers' frequency and financial performance. Conversely, utilizing supply chain exploration competencies strengthens this association. Crucially, adopting a supply chain ambidexterity strategy, combining both exploitation and exploration practices, proves most effective in mitigating the impact of frequent disruption triggers on firm financial performance. Chile's Luksic family, which is the wealthiest in South America with a fortune estimated at $25 billion, has received a huge windfall from their bet on the shipping industry 12 years after making their first investment. A stake in CSAV led to a spinoff of SM SAAM and then to a merger with Hapag-Lloyd AG that gives the firm a 30% stake in the German shipper, the fifth-largest globally. After very rocky years at the beginning, the supply chain mess and sky high rates during the pandemic delivered record results for the industry. The family's fortune nearly doubled in the past five years and CSAV alone posted profits of $5.6 billion in 2022. Luksic family holding Quiñenco S.A., which has 66.5% of CSAV, also runs Banco de Chile with Citigroup, has a long-term deal with Heineken on its beverages business in South America, owns 30% of France's Nexans and has gas stations in Chile, Paraguay and the US. And of course, they have a $12 billion stake in copper miner Grupo Antofagasta Minerals. Chairman Andrónico Luksic Craig on the big shipping payout: “Some analysts described it as the worst investment in the group’s history. The first years were, in effect, quite hard. Successive capital increases and years of losses, as well as a decade without dividends, did not diminish our conviction that long-term results would be obtained. Introducing our deal of the month:     DuPont has announced it will split into three publicly traded companies. This follows a recent wave of other leading chemical companies announcing similar splits, mainly as an opportunity to optimise the business units and ultimately enhance shareholder value.     The Electronics and Water businesses will become separate entities, with the third business retaining the core industrial business and will be traded as the “new” DuPont. This proposed separation plan aims to boost value for shareholders and provide new opportunities for employees. It also will allow more targeted M&A by enabling each of the three distinct companies to independently follow their own growth plans.    Rationale:   Enable a heightened focus on individual markets, opening up new acquisition and growth opportunities, and bolstering each company's balance sheet.    Personnel Changes:   🔹 The current DuPont CFO, Lori Koch, has been appointed as CEO of DuPont, succeeding Ed Breen who will retain his role as Executive Chairman.     🔹Antonella Franzen who was formerly the CFO of DuPont's Water & Protection segment, has been appointed to the CFO role.    Financials:   All three businesses together generated combined net sales of ~$6.6 billion and an operating EBITDA margin of ~24% in 2023. 📈    Read about the deal here: https://lnkd.in/eXeTNj37   #DuPont #PersonelChanges #GrowthStrategy #AcquisitionStrategy

Today, Exxon's shareholders voted overwhelmingly in support of the oil firm's leadership despite an organised investor campaign against the board. This is perhaps not surprising, given that major shareholders BlackRock, State Street and Vanguard (shall we call them the the tacit three at this stage?) were always unlikely to support the campaign. So what's next for climate conscious asset owners? Are we to conclude that it is unlikely oil and gas firms will abandon their (very profitable) core business? Is there even any point in engaging with them? And if you can't engage, can you justify remaining invested?
