Is the Construction Playbook still the path to building a better future? Over three years since its introduction, Group Public Sector Director, Stephen Beechey will host a frank panel discussion at UKREiiF next month to uncover the reality of its implementation alongside Sue McElroy, Fergus Harradence and Deborah Downey. The Playbook was designed to establish a series of #ukgovernment standards on how the construction industry should procure and deliver major public sector projects, focusing on collaboration and strategic relationships between the private and public sector. However, concerns have since been raised by industry bodies that its success is limited due to inconsistent application. 🚀 𝗖𝗦𝗙 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿 $𝟭 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 Townsville’s CSF Industries has been awarded more than $1 million under Round 5 of the Made in Queensland (MiQ) program, designed to boost manufacturing in the state. The funding will allow CSF to introduce cutting-edge equipment and technology, enhancing both safety and productivity within its operations. The project will not only benefit the company but also the local economy by creating an expected 10 new full-time jobs. These advancements will help CSF Industries improve its competitive edge and increase its capacity to meet future demand. Minister for Manufacturing Glenn Butcher highlighted how the Queensland Government has invested more than $207 million into manufacturers through the MiQ program, creating over 800 jobs and encouraging private sector investment exceeding $180 million. The support for CSF Industries will allow the company to expand its capabilities, fostering growth in the local manufacturing sector. CSF Industries is a prominent steel fabrication company, specialising in large-scale construction projects, delivering high-quality steel solutions across various sectors. Last week our Surrey board member Gabriel Makinwa spoke on a panel at the Wates Group pavilion at the UKREiiF conference. Great job by Neil Bradley for moderating and fellow panellists Emma Weller, Oliver Brooks Ben Jowett for contributing to a great conversation. A few really interesting take aways: - There’s an appetite from all parts of the supply chain to move from a risk mitigation approach typical of contracting to more relationship based approach. - The fragmented nature of construction with several stakeholders makes it even harder for technology to make a real difference as companies use different systems that don’t speak to each other. Is there room for a shared framework that all systems must connect into? - The productivity in the construction industry has not increased at the same rate as spend on technology so there’s a huge gap still to be filled here. - We need government, property developers, designers, consultants and contractors to rethink the way we deliver projects. Everyone focuses on protecting their downside vs optimising for shared upside. The Construction of Buildings industry group led the sector in the number of establishments. According to the preliminary results of the 2022 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI), there were 2,239 establishments engaged in construction within the formal economy, reflecting a 2.4% decrease from the 2,293 reported in 2021. Among the various industry groups, the Construction of Buildings accounted for the highest share with 993 establishments, making up 44.4% of the total. This was followed by Electrical, Plumbing, and Other Construction Installation Activities with 424 establishments (18.9%), and Construction of Roads and Railways with 348 establishments (15.5%). In contrast, Demolition and Site Preparation had the lowest representation with only 13 establishments (0.6%). #ConstructionIndustryPH #ASPBI2022 #PhilippineEconomy #VDC
