🆕 The European Commission's EnTEC (Energy Transition Expertise Centre) just published the final version of the study on The potential of osmotic energy in the EU! 💡 The study concludes that, in its current state, #osmotic energy could provide 51TWh/year, which is enough to cover all the energy demand of Romania, Portugal, Hungary, Denmark, Ireland or Croatia for a whole year. 📈 However, this doesn't even take into account further scientific developments, like the improvement of membrane technologies or the use of hypersaline sources, such as brine, that could make osmotic even more performant! 👉 Our Members Sweetch Energy, SaltPower & REDstack BV contributed with their data & expertise so that the study could be as accurate as possible. 🤝 Thank you to the European Commission, Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI, Eric Lecomte & all the contributors for their commitment. New Paper Alert! 📢 At the 2023 IEEE PES ISGT Asia in Auckland, Julian Walter and co-authors presented their new paper applying a multi-horizon multi-energy optimization model for a European case study. They were able to gain insights regarding the transformation of the European energy system from 2030 to 2050. 🌍 In the underlying scenario, the study identifies trends in the shift of the energy system regarding gaseous energy carriers like synthetic hydrogen and methane to be produced in Europe, while synthetic liquid energy carriers are most likely to be imported. Inner European Power-to-X capacities tend to locations with high wind energy capacity, such as coastal regions in Denmark, France and UK. 💨 #multienergyoptimization #europeanenergysystem #fuelscience #fuelsciencecenter #fsc #sustainability #propulsionsystems

For those interested in #hydrogen opportunities, here's a terrific example of working with the government as a financial partner. AJW is adept in strategic advisory ("Should we participate, and what's in it for us?") and funding application advisory ("How can we submit a winning proposal?") to navigate such opportunities. How can AJW support your next move?
Director, Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Office, U.S. Department of Energy; and DOE Hydrogen Program Coordinator
DOE funding available: Deadline March 19 for Concept Papers. The Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Office (HFTO) is pleased to partner with the Industrial Efficiency and Decarbonization Office (IEDO) within the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), U.S. Department of Energy on a pre-FEED topic on how #cleanhydrogen can integrate into industrial facilities. This could also offer opportunities for potential industries located near any of the seven #hydrogenhubs to use nearby clean hydrogen production and stimulate greater regional demand. Please help us to amplify and encourage strong proposals!!! Special shout out to: Tomas Green (HFTO), Avi Shultz (IEDO), Felicia R. Lucci, PhD (IEDO), and all involved. Humboldtian| IIT Bombay| Mental Health First Aider| Institute Excellence awardee in PhD| Best PhD thesis awardee| Chemical Engineer
What I learned from the 'Power-to-Molecules' workshop held at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) We delved into various aspects of Power-to-Molecules technologies, including CO2 capture, hydrogen generation from electrolyzers, types of e-fuels and chemicals, and also learned about current challenges of technology integration. The breakout sessions provided an excellent platform for discussing these topics in-depth, with participants actively sharing their thoughts and ideas. One of the key takeaways for me was gaining a deeper understanding of existing technologies, their significance in the energy landscape, and the hurdles they face in terms of scalability and cost-effectiveness. Additionally, learning about the current market trends and future investment opportunities in this field was eye-opening and has broadened my perspective on the potential impact of Power-to-Molecules technologies on our journey towards a sustainable future. I am grateful to Prof. Roland Dittmeyer for providing me with the opportunity to be a part of the workshop and am eager to apply what I've learned to contribute to the advancement of Power-to-Molecules technologies. #PowerToMolecules #Sustainability #carbonneutrality
On February 28th and 29th, we had the honor of welcoming numerous distinguished visitors from science and industry to the 'Power-to-Molecules' workshop at Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT). KIT organized this workshop together with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). Our goal was to bring together diverse expertise across the technological value chain to evaluate the Power-to-X field, baseline existing #technologies, assess the impact of emerging #disruptive technologies on the future deployment of Power-to-X technologies, determine research and development priorities, and ultimately provide a vision for the future role of Power-to-X in our march to net-zero emissions. Particular attention was paid to identifying the integration and scale-up activities needed to accelerate deployment and adoption of Power-to-X technologies at a scale that will make a global impact on the energy system. A key outcome from the workshop will be a peer-reviewed journal article describing these research priorities and our vision for the future. We are still thrilled by the positive atmosphere and high level of engagement demonstrated by the participants during the event. They not only actively participated but also initiated concrete steps for the further development of the ideas discussed and for a continued cooperation. We are convinced that this workshop has laid the foundation for fruitful cooperation between KIT and NREL in the field of Power-to-X. In this spirit, we look forward to continuing our partnership to advance this important topic together. A sincere thank goes out to all the speakers and participants who contributed to the success of this workshop. Special thanks also to the organizing team and the support provided by Peter F. Green, Deputy Laboratory Director and Chief Research Officer at NREL, and Oliver Kraft, Vice President Research at KIT, without whom this event would not have been possible! With our experts Ria Grindel, Dr. Stefan Mai and Florian Schirra is our department »Financial Mathematics« represented at this year's E-world energy & water in Essen. You will find them in hall 4 – booth number 4G111. 🙌 Their focus in energy research is on the German Electricity Markets, especially on the flexibility of loads on the energy market. For example, in the »FlexEuro« project, in which bids for a virtual battery are optimized across the short-term markets and the associated schedule is calculated, or in the »EnerQuant« project, in which we are researching a modern approach to solving large energy industry models. The department's research also extends to long-term markets. For example, it is currently working with a municipal energy supplier to optimize its long-term procurement strategy. It is also marketing a simulation-based risk manager for electricity, gas and CO2, which has been in use in the industry for several years. 👉 You can of course find out more about this from our researchers themselves at the stand or here: https://lnkd.in/eT8RuHDU
