Hi Network! As some of you know, I took a gap year after my A-levels. This was initially a really difficult decision for made, as I’ve always been someone who based my worth by my academics, grades, or my performance in school. However due to a variety of physical and mental health reason I ultimately decided to apply for deferred UCAS entries in October of 2022, and starting uni in October 2024. As the gap year draws to a close, I’m happy to report that this was the best decision I’ve ever made, and the most impactful year of my life thus far. I was not only able to finally receive help for a variety of health problems, but also managed to achieve so much I never thought was possible: - An internship with GSK and Clifford Chance (gained insight across a wide variety of industries!) - Gained work experience working as a remote admin, tutor, and classroom assistant - Financed my solo travels, staying in hostels and meeting amazing people - Met an amazing mentor Vanessa Viney, who exposed me to the Aerospace industry, leading me to attend extraordinary conferences and even try my hand at the Viasat Space Sustainability competition - …and so many more But above all, I was able to gain my sense of self and became my favourite version of myself. Receiving answers from the NHS at last for a whole variety of health issues I’ve been struggling with throughout sixth form, as well as my Autism diagnosis. My diagnosis is not something I mention a lot in talking about my achievements on here - but I feel like it is important for other neurodivergent students also in the same shoes as me to remember that it is ok to take time out for yourself; it sometimes leads you to flourish even more! So whether you’re currently debating on taking a gap year, or you are resitting your exams, or just figuring out your next steps after school, I hope this gave you some hope as to what your gap year can be like :) Here’s to the next chapter of my life at Imperial College London!

I am excited to share that this month, I: 1) Successfully defended my MS thesis which was a qualitative exploration into the well-being and challenges of international digital humanitarian aid workers 2) Officially graduated with my MS degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the Florida Institute of Technology 3) Recently moved back to Seattle to join the Run Research Team at Brooks Running as their newest Run Perception Intern! This Valentine's Day, our Leaders' Dialogue event cast a spotlight on a 3-year pilot between Mount Royal University Career Services and the Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Arts. Dr. Nancy Ogden, Chair, Department of Psychology and Sarah Imran, MBA, Director, Career Services shared the transformative impact of the program on 440 first-year psychology students, proving MRU's dedication to #ExperientialLearning and #CareerReadiness. What's making waves? 🌊 Micro-internships! These short, 1:1, structured experiences are transforming curricular work-integrated learning. Lasting 1-2 months and supported by industry and community partners, they're the perfect springboard into professional life for our students, laying the foundation early in their academic journey. Leading the charge is Dr. Yi Fei Wang, Growth and Innovation Specialist, with assistance from Valbona Pennoyer, Work Experience Coordinator, who provided career development support for #psychologystudents.
