Let’s all get together to raise awareness about Oesophageal Cancer & Barrett’s Oesophagus in Ireland, and show our support for those who are going through a cancer journey It’s about taking action; early detection is key. Ireland has approximately 500 new cases of Oesophageal Cancer annually — one of the highest rates in Europe. More so than with many other cancers, the early signs of Oesophageal Cancer are easy to overlook. We are honored to award Dr. Kanbergs with the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition Research Grant for Early Detection of Ovarian Cancer. Dr. Kanbergs’s research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a program called Acting on Cancer Testing Together (ACT-Together). This program will use group learning and text reminders to help people with BRCA1/2 mutations remember to go for their recommended visits (surveillance) and take the recommended steps to lower their risk of ovarian cancer. This is especially important for people in communities that don't have much access to healthcare. https://bit.ly/4aLMjx2

Accessible Lung Screening is so important to our population, not only will it lead to faster diagnosis and better treatment outcomes,it also addresses health inequalities for service users who potentially haven’t seen a healthcare professional for a while. If there is Lung Screening in your region or if you know someone who has been invited, please encourage and promote TLHC as much as possible #TLHC #Lungscreening #bettertreatmentoutcomes
“To me, it is simple: screening will save lives,” says Gerard, a great-grandfather who was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in Northern Ireland in 2021. Our analysis showed that thousands of lives could be saved from lung cancer if screening programmes for the disease were introduced in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. With targeted lung cancer screening, we can reduce some of the around 6,900 deaths from lung cancer each year*. Around 48,000 people are diagnosed with lung cancer in the UK every year, making it the 3rd most common cancer in this country. Survival rates have improved only fractionally in the last 40-years, which is why it was identified as one of our priority "cancers of unmet need" a decade ago, and has remained a focus for funding. England is currently the only country implementing the UK National Screening Committee’s recommendation to offer lung cancer screening to all those at the highest risk of the disease (people aged between 55 and 74 who either smoke or used to smoke). But why not Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland... If just 50% of eligible people took part in screening, earlier lung cancer diagnosis could save 2,300 lives in Scotland, 1,000 lives in Wales and 600 lives in Northern Ireland over the next 10-years. That’s why we’re calling for devolved governments to commit to urgently implement lung cancer screening programmes. #cruk #researchsaveslives #earlydiagnosis #screeningsaveslives #beatingcancertogether

Today is #WorldOvarianCancer day. Ovarian cancer is the most lethal gynecological cancer, causing 140,000 deaths each year. Despite this danger, it is still not yet well understood. As with most cancers, more research is needed in this field to improve survival rates. Until we have better research, early detection is your greatest chance of surviving ovarian cancer. That's why World Ovarian Cancer Coalition is spreading awareness of symptoms, with this year's theme being "No Woman Left Behind". Here's a quick fact you might have not known about ovarian cancer. Did you know that ‘Ovarian Cancer’ is not a singular diagnosis, but is rather an umbrella term for a multitude of different types of cancer that affect the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and the primary peritoneal cavity? According to the CANSA The Cancer Association of South Africa website, it is estimated that there are more than 30 different types of ovarian cancers. #optimilearning #worldovariancancerday

Despite recent progress in research and treatment, lung cancer, which includes non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), remains one of the leading causes of cancer deaths worldwide. Many cases are diagnosed at advanced stages. From the often-devastating impact on daily life to the need for customized care plans, the journey for advanced NSCLC is deeply personal. We, too, take lung cancer personally, driving our commitment to spread awareness and propel research forward for the millions impacted by the disease around the world. #WorldLungCancerDay

1 in 4 women believe that a smear test detects ovarian cancer. But there is currently no screening tool for ovarian cancer - we're dedicated to changing that. Toyah on Coronation Street had a CA125 test and CT scan along side biopsies to diagnose her with ovarian cancer. We're funding Professor Ahmed to better understand how ovarian cancer begins so he figure out how best to detect ovarian cancer in the earlier stages - which we know is key to improving survival rates.
