To torund out Pride Month and keep the conversation going, ODEIB's Mary Ellen LaRosa sat down with LGBTQ+ Rights Committee Co-Chair Hayley Gorenberg to discuss the vital topic of creating inclusive environments. During the conversation, they delve into the underlying social forces – e.g. professionalism, heteronormativity, cis sexism, ableism – and their roots in white supremacy. We can all train ourselves to recognize and interrupt dynamics of exclusion in order to produce more inclusive environments. And we can all learn to spot the gaps in understanding the are a byproduct of our privileges, as well as learn to own and correct our mistakes without defensiveness. Doing this work can be a process of growth and creativity! It’s not all blame and shame. We encourage you all to listen, reflect, and share your thoughts. https://lnkd.in/eSc-4RjR #InclusiveWorkplaces #DEIB #Allyship #NewYorkCityBarAssociation

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, symbolizes the liberation of enslaved African Americans on June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. This day is a celebration of resilience, freedom, and a reminder of the continuous struggle for equality and justice. As we honor this day, it's crucial to recognize and celebrate the intersection of Black and LGBTQ+ communities. Both continue to face systemic oppression, discrimination, and violence. The liberation of one group cannot be fully realized without the liberation of all. The struggles at the intersection of racism, homophobia, and transphobia highlight the importance of understanding how various forms of discrimination overlap and impact people's lives. Together, we can continue to push for a society where freedom, equality, and love are not just ideals, but realities for everyone. #Juneteenth #PrideMonth #BlackLGBTQ #FreedomDay #Intersectionality #EqualityForAll

The Department of Education published updated Title IX Final Rules at the end of April that contain reversals of some of the changes made in the 2020 updates, as well as expanded definitions. In addition, new protections have been added for members of the LGBTQ+ community. Although the implementation of Title IX rules on campus may not directly impact the day-to-day responsibilities of your job, lack of compliance will result in the loss of federal funding.
