Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, symbolizes the liberation of enslaved African Americans on June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. This day is a celebration of resilience, freedom, and a reminder of the continuous struggle for equality and justice. As we honor this day, it's crucial to recognize and celebrate the intersection of Black and LGBTQ+ communities. Both continue to face systemic oppression, discrimination, and violence. The liberation of one group cannot be fully realized without the liberation of all. The struggles at the intersection of racism, homophobia, and transphobia highlight the importance of understanding how various forms of discrimination overlap and impact people's lives. Together, we can continue to push for a society where freedom, equality, and love are not just ideals, but realities for everyone. #Juneteenth #PrideMonth #BlackLGBTQ #FreedomDay #Intersectionality #EqualityForAll

According to a 2024 report from the Public Religion Research Institute, nearly 30% of Gen Z adults identify as LGBTQ+. When we talk about what it looks like to support and care for the next generations of our LGBTQ+ community, it is imperative that we recognize the unique needs of our young people who are coming of age in an era of more visibility than ever before—and a hostile political climate. We need to continue to make sure that LGBTQ+ young people are connected with supportive programs and services, both at school and in their local community, that can help them navigate their identities. We will continue to fight for full lived and legal equality so that LGBTQ+ young people learn about rather than experience discrimination in the classroom. #LGBTQ #Equality #ProtectLGBTQYouth #LGBTQYouth

In honor of #pridemonth2024, I wanted to share some relevant financial and estate planning guidance throughout the month: 13. Draft a funeral directive for managing end-of-life wishes. All individuals deserve to have their wishes for their burial, funeral, cremation, and end-of-life care be honored. LGBTQ individuals may wish to execute a funeral or burial advanced directive to appoint someone to manage these affairs, and designate specific wishes in order to minimize conflict at their death. State law may vary so it may make sense to discuss with an attorney, especially if you spend significant amount of time in multiple states. LGBTQ+ individuals, and many others, might value privacy so discussing how to effect their wishes may be an important conversation. Consider discussing pre-paying funeral and burial expenses with applicable parties. #LGBTQ. #estateplanning. #EndOfLifeWishes.

This #PrideMonth our Social Media feeds and workplaces have shown an encouraging amount of visibility and support for our Pride community. However, GLAAD has reminded us that fair and accurate representation in media and journalism have a powerful and measurable effect on the lives of #LGBTQ people. What we watch on TV tends to mirror our current views, ideas, aspirations, fears, and concerns; so, while support for LGBTQ has reached an all-time high, we’re concerned to hear about LGBTQ-inclusive series being cancelled or abruptly ending after one or two seasons. Of the 468 LGBTQ TV characters counted in a recent GLADD study, at least 170 will not return next year, with 24% percent of those due to series cancellations or endings. We support the call to action and for unity, to boldly stand up and speak out for the rights, freedoms and dignities of LGBTQ people, families and allies everywhere. #LGBTQInclusion #PrideMonth2024 #DiversityAndInclusion

Today is National Coming Out Day – a day to celebrate living authentically and to honour the courage of those in the LGBTQ+ community who have shared their truth. However, while many of us celebrate this day, we must also recognize that in some parts of the world, coming out is still unsafe. For many, revealing their true selves can lead to rejection, discrimination, or even violence. In over 60 countries, LGBTQ+ people face legal and social barriers that make living openly a life-threatening decision. National Coming Out Day serves as a reminder of the progress we’ve made, but also highlights the work that remains. As allies and members of the LGBTQ+ community, we must continue to support and fight for the rights of those who cannot safely come out. Everyone deserves the right to live openly, free from fear and oppression. Let’s use today not only to celebrate those who can live authentically, but also to amplify the voices of those who still face barriers to doing so. #NationalComingOutDay #LGBTQ #Equality #HumanRights #SafeToBeMe

To torund out Pride Month and keep the conversation going, ODEIB's Mary Ellen LaRosa sat down with LGBTQ+ Rights Committee Co-Chair Hayley Gorenberg to discuss the vital topic of creating inclusive environments. During the conversation, they delve into the underlying social forces – e.g. professionalism, heteronormativity, cis sexism, ableism – and their roots in white supremacy. We can all train ourselves to recognize and interrupt dynamics of exclusion in order to produce more inclusive environments. And we can all learn to spot the gaps in understanding the are a byproduct of our privileges, as well as learn to own and correct our mistakes without defensiveness. Doing this work can be a process of growth and creativity! It’s not all blame and shame. We encourage you all to listen, reflect, and share your thoughts. https://lnkd.in/eSc-4RjR #InclusiveWorkplaces #DEIB #Allyship #NewYorkCityBarAssociation

Research shows that 57% of transgender youth without parental support attempt suicide. But with parental support, that number drops to 4%!!! This Pride Month, let's recognize the powerful impact of a parent's love. As Susan Cottrell highlights in her impactful TED Talk, FreedHearts.org supports Christian parents in reconciling their faith with unconditional love for their LGBTQ children. Together, we can make a difference. 🌈❤️ [Image Description: Rainbow waves and pink quote marks behind the text, which reads: "Research shows that 57% of transgender youth without parental support attempt suicide.
