Last month, I gave a lecture on new luxury design to a group of Indian university students at POLI.design, where I mentioned the Homo Faber in Venice, curated by Michelangelo Foundation. As you can see in the post below, the students who attended visited Homo Faber.
My own feeling at the third edition of Homo Faber was that we are at a turning point in the craft. For decades, local craft has been emphasised, along with cultural identity, as an axis of opposition to globalisation based on long supply chains.
However, when the solution of geopolitical problems has become a top priority, it is better to focus on the universality of the craft rather than the differentiation in the local craft. That is the role of luxury in creating a new culture.
A good example is the EU's focus on ceramic as a material for East-West cultural exchange since its eastward expansion in 2004.
I recently had the opportunity to attend a lecture on New Luxury Design by Professor Hiroyuki Anzai, where I was introduced to the Homo Faber exhibition in Venice. Excitingly, I also had the chance to visit this extraordinary showcase of craftsmanship in person!
Among the many highlights was the Fée Ondine Automaton by Van Cleef & Arpels—an exquisite work of art that took seven years to create. The level of detail, creativity, and technical expertise behind this piece left me in awe. Experiencing such a profound intersection of art and craftsmanship was truly inspiring, as were the various other displays at the exhibition.
This experience has deepened my appreciation for the artistry behind luxury design and the craftsmanship it takes to bring these creations to life.

"Roslin Renaissance: Crafting Tomorrow's Heritage Today"
In a world where trends come and go, Roslin Concepts stands as a beacon of enduring elegance and timeless sophistication. Rooted in a legacy of craftsmanship and innovation, Roslin embodies the spirit of a renaissance—a revival of classical ideals fused with contemporary vision. With a commitment to excellence and a passion for pushing the boundaries of design, Roslin is not merely creating products; it is shaping the heritage of tomorrow.
At the core of Roslin's ethos is a reverence for tradition coupled with a relentless pursuit of innovation. Drawing inspiration from centuries-old techniques and artisanal craftsmanship, Roslin infuses each creation with a sense of heritage and authenticity. Yet, this reverence for tradition is juxtaposed with a spirit of experimentation and discovery, where new materials, technologies, and forms converge to redefine the possibilities of design.
Roslin's designs are more than just objects; they are embodiments of stories waiting to be told. Each piece carries with it a narrative—a tale of inspiration, dedication, and creativity. From the rugged landscapes of the Scottish Highlands to the bustling streets of Tokyo, Roslin draws from diverse cultural landscapes to weave a tapestry of human experience. The result is a collection that transcends boundaries, bridging the gap between past and present, tradition and innovation.
But Roslin's impact extends beyond the realm of aesthetics. With a firm commitment to sustainability and social responsibility, Roslin is redefining what it means to be a luxury brand in the 21st century. From sourcing ethically harvested materials to investing in eco-friendly production methods, Roslin is leading the charge towards a more sustainable future. By marrying luxury with conscience, Roslin proves that elegance need not come at the expense of the planet.
As we stand on the precipice of a new era, Roslin beckons us to embrace the spirit of renaissance—to celebrate the past while forging boldly ahead into the future. With each creation, Roslin invites us to become part of a living legacy—a legacy built on craftsmanship, innovation, and a steadfast commitment to beauty, sustainability, and social responsibility.

Salone del Mobile
What we can learn from Milan Design Week 2024.
Luxury brands are always seeking innovative ways to engage with consumers and stay ahead of the curve. One prominent strategy is diversification across industries, which allows luxury brands to tap into new markets and demographics while maintaining their exclusivity and prestige.
1. Prada held its third annual Frames symposium, inviting guest speakers to the Bagatti Valsecchi Museum to lead discussions on the idea of the home. “The home is no longer merely a source of comfort; it acts as a shelter and an infrastructure of services. This constantly evolving, dynamic space is where the socio-economic norms that underpin communities have historically taken shape.
The sessions included contributors such as Isabella Rossellini and Brigitte Baptiste.
2. In Palazzo Versace, we could discover the brand’s opulent “conversation sofas” in the mansion where Gianni used to keep an apartment, accompanied by an audio tour marking significant moments in Versace history.
3. Loro Piana exhibition of couches and chairs by pioneering Italian architect Cini Boeri.
4. If there were a contest for the most graceful venue at Milan Design Week, Ralph Lauren's space Rationalist Palazzo on Via San Barnaba would likely emerge as the frontrunner for the prize.
5. Sabato De Sarno unveiled his first furniture collection for Gucci in his trademark glossy burgundy—or “Ancora red”.
