Wage and hour lawsuits are on the rise, making it essential for employers to understand the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Employees fall into two categories: exempt and non-exempt. Exempt employees receive a salary for all hours worked, while non-exempt employees are typically paid hourly and are entitled to overtime pay for hours exceeding forty in a workweek. Calculating pay for non-exempt employees hinges on determining their 'compensable time' – any time the employer permits or allows an employee to work. This includes office hours, remote work, and tasks before the regular workday begins. To avoid common pitfalls and ensure compliance, employers must navigate the complexities of the FLSA's compensable time rules for non-exempt employees. 📜⚖️ #WageAndHourLaws #FLSACompliance #EmploymentLaw #BohreerLawFirm

Thanks Marshall Goldsmith for this important reminder I am very glad to see that your sentiments are well expressed and could be implemented ! This is a great advancement for the workers and want to thank you for raising their voices! From a baby boomer perspective, as a minority woman working in small and largest Canadian cities , I had to work extra hours , be on call 7x24 just to keep my job back in 80s’ 90s and so on. To get better pay or a promotion, I had to do at least two roles : PM and solution architect without overtime compensation or time off. I was performing a similar role as what they called a data scientist nowadays but the job needed overtime and after hour /weekend works. So I chose a lesser role and in a less competitive position. And yet, i still missed my children’s concerts to ensure that they could get a roof over their head. It was an accepted practice in the 80s, 90s and even in 2000’s. It is still inconsistent across countries and industries. Fortunately, the observation is that many younger people leaders are treating their teams with respect and more equity . They thrive for more employee growth without “slavery” hours because they understand the outcome of absentee parents. Let’s make it more consistent across all industries, cities and countries. Then we can all have real work life balance Love to hear from Other baby boomers about their experiences because I know I belong to the work-hard-never-complain group . #jobisNOTyourlife

In 20 years, the only people who will remember that you worked overtime, are your kids. Your boss won’t remember, your team won’t remember, and neither will you! But the people who matter most are the people who will take note of your absence. Remember: other people’s urgencies aren’t your emergencies. You deserve to LIVE your life, not just work through it. #MarshallGoldsmith #career #wellbeing
