My Master's dissertation entitled "ANTIOXIDANT AND ANTIBACTERIAL EFFECTS OF ZINC OXIDE NANOPARTICLES USING THE LEAF EXTRACT OF AEGLE MARMELOS AGAINST THE ZEBRA FISH (DANIO RERIO) PATHOGENS AND THEIR TOXICITY ON ZEBRA FISH POST FERTILIZED EMBRYOS" at The Gandhigram University (The Ministry of Education -Govt of India) has been the best learning journey of my life. My heartfelt thanks to Dr.B.Malaikozhundan,who gave me this wonderful opportunity to learn and grow. Special thanks to Dr.K.S.Nathiga Nambi sir, who is my mentor and his supportive guidance guided me on all the basics of Microbiology techniques , Zebrafish breeding technique and embryo toxicity which laid the foundation for my project. Scion Summer Student opportunity - Biochemical Analysis of Somatic Embryos Scion hosts a number of summer students, each with differing specialities, from tertiary institutes across New Zealand at both our Rotorua and Christchurch Campus. The programme involves a student completing a 12-week, full-time, research project under the direction of Scion supervisors (allowing time for holidays over the Christmas and New Year). Students are able to gain hands on, paid, work experience in the field of which they are studying, where they get to work shoulder to shoulder with Scion's internationally recognised staff. The primary objective of the work/project: To carry out biochemical analysis of maturing somatic embryos using a variety of techniques to build a set of reference values for the progression of biochemical components related to somatic embryo quality in radiata pine. Research Abstract: The 21st Century Tissue Culture Partnership is a project aimed at fully automating the production of radiata pine varietals via somatic embryogenesis (SE), with the aim of reducing the overall cost of the current Petri dish-based protocols. Additional consumable funds of £1000 pa are provided for this project. IInterested in plant virology and the impact of changes in agricultural practice on evolution of viruses ? This PhD will use next generation sequencing to explore the diversity of viruses infecting cereals (wheat and barley) and grasses. Dear members, As a faculty member in the field of Biotechnology, I am increasingly concerned about the apparent trend of graduates struggling to secure employment within the industry. This issue has prompted me to seek a discussion on the matter. I request all eminent Professors, recruitment authorities, and stakeholders in a discussion about Academic quality, the relevance of faculty qualifications, and curriculum integrity in the teaching of specialized subjects such as Biotechnology by faculty primarily trained in Genetics, Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Biochemistry and Bioinformatics. 1. Given the interdisciplinary nature of modern science, to what extent should faculty with a Master's degree or Ph.D. in Genetics, Botany , Biochemistry, Microbiology and other disciplines be considered qualified to teach Biotechnology, especially when the syllabus comprises over 50% of topics outside their primary field of expertise? 2. How do current UGC (University Grants Commission) guidelines address the qualifications required for faculty to teach subjects that overlap but are distinct from their field of study, such as a geneticist teaching Biotechnology? Are these guidelines sufficiently stringent to ensure educational quality? 3. In cases where the curriculum of Biotechnology significantly diverges from the expertise of a Genetics professor, what measures can be taken to bridge the knowledge gap and ensure that students receive high-quality education that covers all core content of the syllabus? 4. How should the responsibility of ensuring that students gain the necessary skills and knowledge from their syllabus be shared among faculty, department heads, university administration, and regulatory bodies like the UGC and State Higher Education Council? 5. Considering the rapid evolution of scientific fields and the emergence of interdisciplinary studies, how can educational policies be adapted to ensure that educators are not only experts in their primary field but also competent to teach related subjects that form part of modern curriculums?
