We are the lead in increasing awareness of this heinous form of abuse and the offence complexities. Forums and Workshops are essential and an investment in embedding a comprehensive understanding of the new Coercive Control offence, ensuring appropriate and efficient responses and identification, which will save lives. This offence is complex and a deeper understanding will assist in understanding what will be required for successful prosecution. As always, with any Legislation the devil is in the detail. When we unpack the new Coercive Control offence (NSW) and its complexities at our NSW Region Forums, we also unpack what coercive control is and its consequences, such as whilst not limited to the “loss of free will”; loss of autonomy; overt and rigid rules; covert and overtook behaviours; unwritten consequences; unspoken expectations; emotional fallout; promises extracted; emotions fully loaded; Fear Obligation and Guilt (FOG); manipulative moodiness; and sulking in the aftermath as means to get what the controller wants.
