Cancer diagnosis: How to thrive and achieve more of life If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with cancer, you know that it can be a devastating experience. But there is hope. It is possible to thrive and achieve more of life even with a cancer diagnosis. We hosted an event about how to thrive and achieve more of life even when facing challenges. Here are some of the key takeaways: It's important to prioritize your physical and mental health. This means getting enough rest, eating a healthy diet, and exercising regularly. It also means finding healthy ways to manage stress, such as meditation, yoga, or spending time in nature. Don't be afraid to ask for help. There are many resources available to support people with cancer, including financial assistance, transportation, and emotional support groups. Talk to your doctor, social worker, or other healthcare team members about what resources are available in your community. It's okay to make changes to your work life. If you need to take a leave of absence or reduce your hours, don't feel guilty. Your health is the most important thing. Don't give up on your dreams. Even with a cancer diagnosis, it is still possible to achieve your goals. Talk to your doctor about what activities are safe for you, and don't be afraid to adapt your plans as needed. If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with cancer, please watch our event video for more inspiration and advice Together, we can show the world that it is possible to thrive and achieve more of life, even when facing challenges. #CancerSurvivor #ThriveWithCancer #CancerHope 🎗️💪❤️

Today is International Women's Day. A day to acknowledge the amazing achievements of women but also to recognise the progress yet to be made. McCabe Centre for Law & Cancer has contributed to 'Women, power, and cancer: A Lancet Commission', an interesting read on how women interact with cancer in complex ways and the barriers faced. Including key findings and priority actions to work towards equity. Read more below 👇 If you'd like to learn more about the McCabe Centre's work in advancing the law to prevent cancer and work towards equitable access to treatment and care, see more here: www.mccabecentre.org
There are many barriers to women’s economic empowerment, and many factors that contribute to women being excluded from equal participation in the economy. Some of these are well-known and discussed, like equal access to education and employment pathways. But an often-overlooked factor is the way that health burdens, including cancer, disproportionately affect women. Whether it’s creating obstacles to professional advancement or the largely unrecognised cost of unpaid care, by addressing these factors, we can work towards greater inclusion and progress for women. Ahead of International Women's Day, we encourage you to take a look at Women, power, and cancer: A Lancet Commission, which we made a contribution to: https://lnkd.in/eCwv4ypB #IWD2024 #CountHerIn

Today 800.000 deaths could be averted if all women everywhere could access optimal cancer care. How can we all act upon this? ⬇️ #Cancer is a big contributor to #health inequality. 70% of yearly cancer-related deaths occur in LMICs. The disease disproportionately affects women, who often face intersecting challenges due to geography, race, and ethnicity, among others. The Lancet Commission on Women, Power, and Cancer showed that there is a profound gender gap when it comes to accessing cancer care. According to the authors, the patriarchal influence in #cancercare, #research, and policymaking results in systemic barriers for #women as patients, the workforce and decision-makers. These barriers include under-representation in leadership roles and gender-based discrimination. At City Cancer Challenge, we are hosting a thought-provoking webinar coming up next week, where we will unveil the progress made in the development of C/Can’s new gender equity strategy. We will elevate the voice of our city stakeholders, like Jessie Githanga, Nur Aishah Mohd Taib and Fatima Luna, facing these challenges in the first person. We will count on the experience of VERNA VANDERPUYE, co-chair of The Lancet Commission, and the private sector's perspective on gender equity, thanks to the participation of Leticia (Tisha) Boatman. 📅 7 March ⌚ 15:00 - 16:00 CET 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eFZrPWGu I can't wait to hear their stories! And more to come as part of C/Can's new gender equity strategy to strengthen health systems within our cities in a gender-responsive approach, leading the way towards a future where health equity is a reality for all. See you there!
