Today I had the pleasure of speaking on a panel at OMFIF’s “Europe: the opportunity for global investors” summit in Singapore, co-hosted by the European Commission, where we discussed the market for #EUbonds and how they can be made even more attractive to investors.   The EU can be considered an extraordinary supranational issuer with its large common budget to finance priority projects funded in part by issuing EU debt. EU bonds already qualify as high-quality liquid assets with secondary-market liquidity broadly in line with that of European sovereign government bonds. And the EU will become the world’s largest issuer of green bonds.   One important question is whether the EU will become a long-term issuer. This will depend on how member states tackle the pressing issue of closing the huge annual investment gap that Europe faces – Mario Draghi says the EU needs to raise investment by EUR 800bn a year in his new report "The future of European competitiveness".   Many thanks to my fellow panelists for the lively discussion: Siegfried Ruhl (European Commission), Neeraj Seth (BlackRock Asia), Frances Lee (Hong Kong Monetary Authority), Ioannis Rallis (J.P.
