One of the biggest challenges in EdTech is accessibility. As you're developing new products, you're just trying to get them to work, and when you have a breakthrough, that can be exciting! However, before roll out, that new product or resource needs to be accessible to all users. #EdTech #accessibility #UDL #CAST

This is such a wise ruling - it will force us all to use the technology we have to a much fuller extent. The benefits for ALL individuals is likely unrealized. It is not just those with learning differences who will be the winners. All learners will enjoy reading captioned presentations when they have forgotten their headphones. Those who require reading glasses will appreciate the ability to increase text size, and those who would like to hear the text read aloud as they follow along on the print will all be beneficiaries of this positive step. These are just a few examples of what the transformation to digital learning resources will provide. Ultimately, this change in design will reduce the need for specific individualized accommodations, because these accommodations will be organically provided. This may be a heavy lift for many educational entities and there are many "how tos" to be learned, but the effort put into this will be long-lasting and far-reaching. Today marks the start of #DyslexiaAwarenessWeek in the UK! With 17% of the world population being dyslexic, that's 137m million stories to tell, all with their own unique experience.️ Dyslexia is a #neurodivergent condition and a common learning difference that can impact reading, writing and spelling. Although often perceived as a limitation, it doesn't define a person's potential! In fact, many dyslexic individuals possess enhanced strengths in creativity, problem-solving and out-of-the-box thinking; demonstrating the power of diverse learning styles.  In the workplace, the first step to support this #neurodivergence is to nurture the psychological safety needed so that individuals can voice their distinction. Furthermore, small adjustments can make a big difference for dyslexic individuals. This could be anything from providing clear instructions in writing, to allowing extra time for tasks or offering assistive technology such as text-to-speech software. By understanding and accommodating #dyslexia, we can unlock incredible talent and create a more inclusive environment. Today, on the United Nations' #InternationalDayofEducation, Special Olympics' second annual assessment of the Global State of Inclusion in Education was published urging all national governments, civil society and international organizations around the globe to commit to robust action that will deliver true inclusion for learners of all abilities.   The letter also examines three key developments in the inclusive education space over the past year.   - There is a growing recognition by governments and civil society of the importance of inclusive practices. But paltry funding for inclusive practices worldwide continues to be a significant barrier to true inclusion. - The rapid growth of AI presents both opportunities and challenges for children with IDD. Without deliberate action to promote inclusive tech development, this revolution could deepen existing inequities, leaving children with IDD even further behind. - Capacity development and mentoring for educators emerged as a critical next step to strengthening inclusion in schools around the globe. We must amplify teacher training on inclusive practices to ensure their embedment in teaching.   We know inclusion works. Our Unified Champion Schools program—which brings together students with and without IDD to learn and play together—shows that all students benefit from more inclusive school communities. Research demonstrates measurable results for students, from an improved sense of community to better reading and math scores.   Sport, integrated into education, is a truly transformative tool. Sports can change hearts, minds and behaviors. At scale, sports and other inclusive practices become positive disruptors that encourage both social and economic development.   But there’s work to be done to ensure inclusion becomes a reality across the globe. We need your help. Challenge exclusive practices in your community, support inclusive initiatives on the playing field and in the classroom and join us in ensuring that the next generation of technological and educational advancements serves learners of all abilities.
