“Saving our planet is now a communications challenge”. David Attenbourough This is from someone who has inspired what they now call "The Attenbourough Effect". According to a report by GlobalWebIndex over 14 million people from the British population tuned in to the BluePlanet programme and it reported over 53% of people across the UK and US have reported to have reduced their plastic waste drastically as a result. What can marketing learn from this? 🦍 Relatedness: The voiceover from DA of these programmes makes us feel connected to the animals we are watching. We see these animals with their children and families and we get the "they are like me" feeling. Our sense of connection is increased along with empathy. This helps influence our behaviour. 📖 Stories not statistics: Instead of numbers we are engaged in the atomic stories of animals. The micro storytelling enables us to connect and understand the bigger context. It personalises it and motivates towards action. ✨ Purpose: In Daniel Pinks book "Drive" he speaks of intrinsic motivations which includes Meaning, Autonomy and Purpose. People find drive when they connect with a sense of purpose. In particular, the next gen consumers are motivated by organisations who are PDO's (purpose driven orgs) and have increased brand loyalty to these types of brands.
