I share the same viewpoint with Dr Akinwumi Adesina that millions of young Africans have a lot of potential and opportunities to ignite a new age of inclusive prosperity on the continent. However, to carefully cultivate their potential, they need to be empowered and supported by various actors and stakeholders, such as the #governments, the private sector, the civil society, and the international community. Some Of The Ways To cultivate the potential of young Africans are: • Providing quality #education and skills development, that are relevant and responsive to the market needs and the sustainable development goals (#SDGs). • Creating decent and inclusive #employment and #entrepreneurship opportunities, that are aligned with the young people's aspirations and talents. • Enhancing participation and representation in decision-making and governance, that is respectful and inclusive of the young people's voices and perspectives. • Investing in #health and well-being, that are accessible and affordable for young people, especially the vulnerable and marginalized groups. #WeSpeakAgriculture #AfricanAgricGiant #AkinwumiAdesina #AfricanDevelopmentBank

Today I was reflecting While some #African countries have abundant natural resources and have experienced economic growth, others still face significant challenges in terms of poverty, inequality, and underdevelopment. There are several factors that contribute to the economic challenges faced by some African countries like #Cameroon: 1. Colonial legacy: Many African countries were colonized by European powers, which had a profound impact on their development. The colonial era often resulted in the extraction of resources and the establishment of economies geared towards serving the interests of the colonizers, rather than fostering broad-based development. 2. Political instability and conflict: Some African countries have experienced political instability, governance issues, and armed conflicts. These factors can disrupt economic activities, deter foreign investment, and divert resources away from development. 3. Weak institutions and corruption: Weak governance structures, inadequate legal systems, and high levels of corruption can hinder economic progress and discourage investment. Corruption undermines public trust, diverts resources away from essential services, and perpetuates inequalities. 4. Structural challenges: Many African economies face structural challenges, such as overreliance on a few export commodities, limited diversification, and underdeveloped infrastructure. These factors make them vulnerable to external shocks and hinder sustainable economic growth. 5. Population growth and poverty trap: Africa has experienced rapid population growth, which poses challenges in terms of providing basic services, education, healthcare, and employment opportunities. High levels of poverty can create a cycle of limited access to education, limited job opportunities, and low productivity, which perpetuates poverty. while some African countries face significant economic challenges, there are also countries on the continent that have made substantial progress in terms of economic growth, poverty reduction, and human development. Africa has a leadership deficit and this has been reflected by poor socioeconomic and political environment that has characterises the lives of those in the continent.The continent failed to translate the pan-African optimism present immediately after independence into concrete socioeconomic developmental outputs.Poor malevolent, leadership, predatory kleptocrats, military-installed autocrats, economic illiterates seems to characterises premiers of states across the continent. It might seem elusive, but it is only through accountable leadership that Africa can transform into a politically, economically and socially competitive region in the global economy. South Africa's Day of Reconciliation: Triumphs, Challenges, and the Ongoing Journey Towards Unity The Day of Reconciliation in South Africa, observed on December 16th, commemorates the end of apartheid, a system of institutionalised racial segregation. Established in 1994, the day symbolises unity and healing, aiming to bridge the gaps in a nation scarred by decades of discrimination. However, South Africa grapples with persistent challenges stemming from its apartheid legacy. Socio-economic inequality, deeply rooted in historical discrimination, continues to afflict the country. Disparities in education, employment, and access to basic services persist among different racial groups. Land reform, a critical issue linked to historical dispossession, remains complex, facing political disagreements and economic concerns. Reconciliation remains an ongoing process, marked by racial tensions and divisions. Achieving genuine unity necessitates addressing deep-seated historical wounds and fostering understanding among diverse communities. Moreover, the country confronts challenges such as corruption, crime, and political instability, which impede progress and exacerbate existing issues. In essence, the Day of Reconciliation represents a triumph over apartheid, but South Africa is still on its journey toward a more just, equitable, and united society. Ongoing efforts to address socioeconomic disparities, implement effective land reform, promote reconciliation, and tackle broader challenges are crucial for realizing the nation's democratic and prosperous vision. At best we are consciously aware that Africa's greatest strength is in its generously bestowed young population (not its natural resources). Human capital is one of the most resource-dense sectors in the era of the knowledge economy and with a mean average of 15 years, Africa brags trillions of dollars in untapped potential. Research shows that adolescence is a uniquely adaptable stage of life, when the brain is particularly open to learning new information and when deep political aspirations and commitments are constructed. (SSIR) However with millions of new job entrants each year, a lack of proper infrastructure to tap into the youth potential is generating enormous waste. Grassroots youth organizing group is a critical institutional void in emerging countries. By helping the youth overcome poverty, tribalism, institutional injustice, and trauma suffered in childhood, the youth can then channel their energy toward building a progressive democracy (SSIR). Furthermore, grassroots organizations arm young adults with critical information that rewire their programming making them better at navigating complex challenges in addition to powerful leadership skills that may kickstart waves of awakening. The key is to learn from institutions that have replicated admirable results in the US black community and minority groups; we could shadow their practices tweaking the context to fit our history and environment without deviating from the core vision. By demonstrating that we understand the urgency to act and the value it represents we could attract donors in the sector and talent to foster its growth. The future of Western relations should adapt to reflect our core ambitions that also serve the greater good. South Africa has many problems - Racism, High levels of inequality, extreme poverty, high unemployment, corruption and rising costs of living etc: However, with these problems, we have much to celebrate: 1. It is no longer a crime to be black - stripped of your dignity and humanity because of the color of your skin 2. Interracial relationships/marriages are legal and accepted - People are free to love whoever they want. 3. All South Africans have a right to vote and choose a leader that they believe is capable of leading this country forward. 3. Our schools and Universities are open to everyone - though many still can’t afford the cost of a good education. 4. It is no longer a crime for a native to own land, own a business or other income/wealth generating assets. 5. No longer are natives restricted to live and work in a particular place, we have freedom to choose Today I am self employed, I homeschool my kids, I am a published author and an economic equality activist - doing things my parents, my grand parents and my fore fathers could not even dream of doing because of the racially oppressive, systemic exclusion and human dignity stripping conditions they have had to live through. We are a country with a young democracy of just under 30years, trying to overhaul a system that thrived for over 300 years. We are moving South Africa from a country for a select few, to a country for all. That move alone will present its own challenges in infrastructure, population control, services etc and thus highten racial tensions which have always been South Africa’s number one problem. If we are to truly live by the ideals proclaimed in our Constitution’s preamble, we have to be intentional about inclusive development and growth. Race is the only significant difference we have as humanity, but there is so much that is common amongst us - We all want a roof over our heads, freedom to love, ability to live and work where we want, we want to have enough and feel enough, we want to be able to provide and protect those we love, we want to celebrate and practice our religions and cultures without fear. Let’s leave political parties aside for a moment - but engage our own agency as South African Citizens by asking ourselves this simple question: What does a “South Africa for all,” mean to me and how can I be deliberate in creating it in my home, my workplace, my community or whatever spaces I have influence over. #IamSouthAfrican #MySouthAfrica

Africa must create strong institutions to drive its developmental agenda forward. It is in Africa’s best interests to do so. Weak institutions have cost generations and this must be addressed. It was a great privilege to Meet with his Excellency the Deputy Permanent Representative of Tunisia to the United Nations after the special session on Africa at the UNICEF executive board Meeting, entitled: “An Africa Fit for Children and Young People: What Investments Are Needed to Develop Africa’s Human Capital?” . Alongside passionate activists from Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo, we had the opportunity to share our insights and reflections after pitching our ideas. Our discussion revolved around the pressing challenges that African youth are confronting in the face of climate change, but also the immense opportunities that lie ahead for the youngest continent. We firmly believe that it's time to RESHAPE THE NARRATIVE ABOUT AFRICA. His Excellency pledged to convey our key messages to global decision-makers, emphasizing the critical importance of two key pillars: Education of quality and implication of youth in the decision making process.
