Alarming facts: Black babies die at 4 times the rate of white babies in Franklin County. Similarly, Black women are 3 times more likely to die due to pregnancy-related issues than white women. As we recognize Black Maternal Health Week, it is critical that we stay focused on reducing health disparities in our community. By working together with hospitals, nonprofit organizations and state and local agencies, CelebrateOne, Columbus’ collective impact initiative, is working diligently to reduce the infant mortality rate and cut the racial health disparity gap. https://loom.ly/0hUv9h4 📽️ CelebrateOne and NBC4 #CentralOhioHospitalCouncil #COHC #InfantMortality #ReduceInfantMortality #BlackMaternalHealthWeek #CelebrateOneColumbus #MaternalHealthMatters #BirthJustice #HealthEquity

One of the most common questions we get at SimpliFed is "Why would I use virtual care instead of in-person care for maternal health needs?" There is no one right, silver bullet answer, but there is a spectrum of offerings healthcare systems and health plans can offer to patients to improve maternal health outcomes, reduce costs, and improve quality + HEDIS metrics. As an example, our analysis of a large national health plans dataset shows $4-6K in additional costs during the postpartum period outside of the global maternity bundle, much of it aligned to patients not having access to care to treat high risk conditions such as preeclampsia, maternal mental health, and more. The good news is that we have EXACTLY the right person who will share some of her insights in response to the question above based on her learnings from her leadership along the way. We have been so lucky to learn from Dr. Zeeshan, the Director of Quality for Women's Health at Sun River Health. She is an expert in engaging patients during the pregnancy and postpartum period to improve maternal health outcomes, so be sure to sign up and tune in below!
Join our CEO Andrea Ippolito and Dr. Quratulain Zeeshan, Director of Quality for Women’s health at Sun River Health for a discussion on engaging hard to reach patients. They’ll discuss: 🚧 Common barriers to care and how to combat them 🤳 Layering in virtual care and it’s benefits for patients 🤝 The significance of long-term engagement for pregnant and postpartum women ☑ And so much more! Thursday, August 22nd 2:00pm EST/11:00am PST Learn more and register here: https://lnkd.in/gEM_E5EW #marternalhealth

Innovation sometimes comes through to benefit a community rather than a company. In this instance, the community is women who are pregnant or postpartum and face barriers to transportation. Babyscripts teams up with Lyft to provide transportation to maternal health services to address how access is one of the biggest challenges to maternal health and infant health. This is one of the goals of SEMPQIC...access for all. Learn more at sempqic.org https://buff.ly/3yqrbhz

It's Black Maternal Health Week! Black women have better birthing outcomes when there are policies in place that ensure Black women are treated with respect and compassion. As a result of ineffective and inequitable policies and practices, Black women have a significantly higher rate of death due to complications from childbirth than other women. Change can happen within institutions and across government through policies like: 💙 Identifying and addressing unconscious bias in healthcare 💙 Improving the delivery of quality pre-natal and post-partum care 💙 Establishing perinatal quality collaboratives to improve care for moms and babies 💙 Establishing committees to review maternal deaths to inform prevention efforts 💙 Extending Medicaid coverage to 12 months post-partum 💙 Establishing Medicaid coverage of doula services Learn more: 📰 National Health Law Program, Medicaid Doula Project: https://lnkd.in/efypa9e2 📰 NASHP | National Academy for State Health Policy, State Health Policy Resources to Promote Black Maternal Health and Equity (2022): https://lnkd.in/d2vuDp-a 📰 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Working Together to Reduce Black Maternal Mortality: https://lnkd.in/e5YEi2A #healthcare #publichealth #healthequity #maternalhealth #resources #BMHW24
