Hey everyone! (Please share this post if you can! ❤️)
We've got a situation on our hands that needs some serious attention. Metro Los Angeles is planning to run the C-Line right through our neighborhood, and it's causing quite an uproar. Imagine this: two additional tracks running alongside our existing freight train line, bringing Metro trains passing by every 4-15 minutes. That's 200-300 trains A DAY! Some homes in Lawndale will have these trains just 5 feet away, and others will see the freight train moving closer too. It's like Metro is playing a game of Tetris with our yards and homes, except this is real life!
But here's the kicker: our voices are getting drowned out. Two weeks ago, Metro didn't even bother to tell us about a two recent meetings until they were already over! Now, the Metro Board of Directors is about to make a decision that could change our neighborhood forever. They're choosing between running the line right by our houses on the ROW or elevating it down the middle of Hawthorne Blvd. We're all for public transportation, but the Hawthorne Blvd. option is just safer and better for everyone involved. Plus, it doesn't involve railroading thousands of homes!
Now, it seems like Metro is leaning towards the ROW option because of cost, and that's got us feeling pretty panicked. It's like our neighborhood's being steamrolled, and nobody's batting an eye. Most folks in Lawndale are busy working hard to make ends meet, so they can't make it to these meetings. Their voices deserve to be heard, but they're getting sidelined, and it's heartbreaking.
Even if this doesn't directly impact you, we're all in this together. An injustice to one neighborhood is an injustice to all. We've got a petition that needs signatures, and we're rallying a bus to take us to Metro's meeting on May 23rd when they vote on the route.
So here's the deal: I'm reaching out for your support. If you’ve got a minute, please sign our petition (and save your donations for our GoFundMe page - Change.org donations don’t go to our cause!). We're also on the lookout for folks with experience in politics or activism to join our team. We're a small group of neighbors doing our best, but we could sure use some guidance.
Thanks for sticking with me through this. I'm just a mom trying to make a difference in my community, and right now, I'm feeling a little overwhelmed.
Oh, and if you've got any questions about the project, hit me up! I'll do my best to answer, or find someone who can.
Here's to making some noise and standing up for what's right!
Let's do this! 💪 ❤️
