At Organon Mid-Europe (France, Belgium, Luxemburg, Switzerland), we believe actions speak louder than words. That's why we're stepping up—quite literally—to address the barriers that prevent many women from participating in sports. This year, Organon Mid Europe is walking in teams to shine a light on the challenges women face, such as time constraints, lack of confidence, and cost, which all impact their health and well-being. Our collective strides are more than just a walk; they're a statement of our unwavering commitment to women's health. Together, we're moving forward, breaking down barriers, and fostering a healthier future for all women. Before 1993, women were rarely included in clinical trials. Today, more than 30 years after the FDA reversed the restrictive ban excluding women from clinical trials, the medical field still doesn’t know how well many drugs and devices work for women. 1977: Pregnant women are banned from participating in Phase I/II clinical trials. This ruling is also used to exclude women of reproductive potential in an extreme attempt to avoid adverse events following the thalidomide tragedy which caused severe, life-threatening birth defects. Early 1980s: A task force on women’s health concludes the exclusion of women from clinical trials had compromised healthcare for women 1986: National Institutes of Health issues a policy to encourage women's inclusion in clinical trial research. It is largely ineffective. 1993: FDA regulation passed in 1977 is reversed, and more women are included in clinical trials 2022: A Harvard Medical School study finds that women, as of 2019, were still substantially underrepresented in clinical trials for leading diseases. Research shows that more diverse clinical trial leadership increases diverse enrollment. Is your company ready to join Women As One’s partners in creating a more equitable future? This International Women’s Day, the theme is "inspire inclusion." I love this theme because it uplifts inspiring stories. It reminds us of the acts of courage women have made to shatter glass ceilings, make history, and pave the way for future generations. But it’s also a call to action. Inclusion is a big focus at Johnson & Johnson. For us, this means including the voices of women at all levels of our company – and taking action to meet the unique needs of women in communities we serve around the world. One way this comes to life is through our partnerships. We recently launched a new partnership with Women of Color in Pharma (WOCIP), an organization dedicated to advancing opportunities and amplifying the voices of women of color in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries. We are also a long-standing partner with the Healthcare Businesswomen's Association - Entrepreneurship . Through both of these partnerships, our employees have access to an extended network and resources to help them grow in their careers. I hope you all take this year’s International Women’s Day call to action – "inspire inclusion" – to heart. Learn more about how we’re taking action to inspire inclusion for women in STEM at the link below. #InspireInclusion #mycompany #iwd2024
