The new geometry at Atwood & Walter, and raised crosswalks along Atwood Avenue are doing some serious work. The elongated median not only provides a refuge for pedestrians (signals are timed as a single crossing) in case people cross against the dont walk or the signal goes into emergency flash, but they also slow turning drivers down at the conflict point. Similarly, the raised crosswalk slows drivers at the conflict point and as they head into the neighborhood. I really hope people start to see the benefit of this and request this design feature more. Might be more on the signal timing here in the future once a few gremlins are worked out with regards to a PPLT and right turn overlap issue. https://lnkd.in/dCgfMtcV

Lock 3 Park in downtown Akron, Ohio is beginning to look truly spectacular in this Lock 3 Update provided by Dan Rice, president & CEO of the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition and Kathyrn DeMuesy, director of construction for Anser Advisory. Among other topics, this video provides an update on the construction of Lock 3 Park as an accessible and equitable public space. The original elevation difference from Main St. to the canal is about 17 feet. The new Lock 3 Park will create a gentle slope from Main St. to the canal, with just a 5% grade change, making the park accessible to all.
