Is there anything scarier than a low-quality carbon project?? 😱😱😱 We didn’t think so… Carbon projects, done right, sequester CO2e (among other co-benefits) and help entities address their greenhouse gas emissions. They serve as a vital part of a larger global climate mitigation strategy. But, some projects have been steeped in controversy through poor design, improper measurement and faulty monitoring techniques… So what makes a carbon project low-quality? 👇 Here’s why they keep us up at night: 👻 Lack of transparency – Can every aspect be measured and verified? 👻 Concerns around additionality – is it making any genuine, positive impact? 👻 Inaccurate baselines – leading to over-exaggeration of impact 👻 Leakage & Permanence issues – did the previous activity (e.g. deforestation) just shift to a new area? Are the results going to last? 👻👻 Double counting 👹 (and more) At HAMERKOP we’re (obviously) passionate about high-quality carbon projects. I mean, we even carved pumpkins to illustrate this point (impressive work, Hazel Herbst!) 🎃 We help climate change mitigation projects get certified by making sure they check all of the boxes and make a REAL, positive difference. We also carry out early stage feasibility studies, support the implementation of activities and monitor projects’ ongoing impacts. We even perform technical risk-related due diligence for carbon credit buyers. All in all, we are experts in carbon markets and mitigation projects. Don’t hesitate to reach out… We make the carbon market a lot less mysterious 🧙♀️ 🎃 Happy Halloween from the HAMERKOP team! 🎃 👉 Enjoy this kind of content? #climatechange #shareholderengagement My latest Future of Good article is about shareholder engagement and climate change. Eric St-Pierre, CEO of The Trottier Family Foundation, explains why his organization is hiring a shareholder engagement director to complement the work of their outside shareholder engagement advisors. It is a precedent. Many CEOs of Canadian Foundations CEOs and Family Offices have been actively engaging with the management and board of companies they invest in to demand climate action. But to hire an in-house shareholder engagement director is taking this dialogue to another level. We'll see the impact in 12 to 18 months. https://lnkd.in/eUSp4UFm

WRA is Hiring! Salary Range: $65,000.00 To 85,000.00 Annually POSITION SUMMARY: While every person is affected by the climate crisis, Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, and multiracial people and other diverse communities have borne and continue to bear a far higher burden from climate inaction. These individuals and communities have to a large degree been excluded from decision making where conservation policies are designed and advanced, which has had and continues to have a detrimental effect on many aspects of their lives. We can’t adequately or appropriately address climate change without addressing environmental justice and working closely with those most impacted by the complex problems facing disproportionately impacted communities in the Interior West. The Equity and Community Engagement Manager will support WRA’s conservation policymaking and advocacy work through just policies that drive equitable outcomes. The Equity and Community Engagement Manager will foster equity efforts by coaching and supporting WRA team members concerning shared principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, as well as exploring opportunities to strengthen partnerships with diverse communities, individuals, and coalitions. About Western Resource Advocates WRA fights climate change and its impacts to sustain the environment, economy, and people of the West. We respect the different needs of diverse people and partner with them to develop a shared vision for progress—one that advances communities while protecting biodiversity. Our team of policy experts, scientists, economists, and attorneys has a 30-year history of working where decisions are made, sweating the details, creating evidence-based solutions, and holding decision makers accountable. This on the ground work with policymakers and other advocates advances clean energy, protects air, land, water, and wildlife—and sustains the lives and livelihoods of the West.
