Children from a local primary school visited Otterpool Park last week to find out more about nature conservation and the habitats that can be found on our site. Experts from our consultants Stantec shared their findings about the habitats that can be found on our site and ran activities to learn about how, as well as providing homes for local people, we will protect and restore the homes of local wildlife as part of creating the new garden town. On this Earth Day, we’re calling attention to the fact that America’s grasslands are vanishing at an alarming rate. These are the prairies, savannas, glades, and sagebrush steppe lands in our own backyard communities. These ecosystems protect our waters, soils, and climate. And as this grassland habitat disappears, so do the wildlife populations dependent upon them. Today, more than two dozen conservation organizations have joined forces to underscore the importance of grasslands habitat conservation. Please visit https://lnkd.in/gj6qnF5M to learn about the magnitude of impact this habitat loss has had on 15 iconic grassland-dependent wildlife species, ranging from birds to mammals and fish to insects. #mapforgrasslands #actforgrasslands

Two new #RecoveryPlans have been released to support the malleefowl and forty-spotted pardalote 🐦 Listed as #endangered the forty-spotted pardalote is one of Australia’s rarest birds and is found only in Tasmania. The malleefowl survives in all mainland states except Queensland and is listed as #vulnerable. The objectives of the plans are to: 💚 secure existing populations across the species’ range 💚 maximise chances of long-term survival 💚 protect and restore populations and habitats 💚 reduce threats. The plans were developed over many years with contributions from groups including conservationists, scientists, and Traditional Owners. We are doing more than ever to protect more of our natural world, fix more of what’s damaged and care for the places we love. Head to dcceew.gov.au and search ‘malleefowl’ or ‘forty-spotted pardalote’. #LoveOurBiodiversity #BiodiversityMonth

🌳 It's International Day for the conservation of mangrove ecosystems! 🌳 Let's make this day all about conserving our mangrove ecosystems. Don't know what mangrove ecosystems are? They are ecosystems and natural communities protected by mangroves. Mangroves are trees that grow at the border between land and sea. They are important refuge areas for a wide variety of wildlife and help protect coastal communities against storm surges and rising sea levels. Let’s use this day to spread awareness and help protect the valuable mangrove ecosystems within our earth. Check out this article and website by our friends at UNESCO to learn more about mangroves and the act of protecting them and their ecosystems! https://lnkd.in/e5nw-R6E #Mangroves #Ecosystems #Conservation #awareness #Wildlife #NotaryToday

Great to see the work we are carrying out on site being spread onto the national pages 🐍 Creating habitats and carrying out surveys are especially important to help us build on existing population numbers and in helping us to understand if species are thriving on our estate. The butterfly emergency is just one example of why these areas are key in understanding our impact on nature and how everything we do to raise awareness helps. We can always do more. #nationaltrust #grasssnake #butterflyemergency #conservation #nature #butterflyconservation #amphibianandreptile National Trust Butterfly Conservation

Its #NationalHedgerowWeek, which celebrates British Hedgerows: the UK's largest wildlife habitat. 🌿 Hedgerows are vital for countless species across the UK, providing food, shelter, and corridors for movement between other important habitats. 🐿 Hedgerows are essential for maintaining biodiversity, and are legally protected if they are: 📏 More than 20 meters long 🕰 At least 30 years old ⭐️ Are 'important' as part of a protected historic site or contain protected species With our habitat creation, clearance and restoration services, we can support you to navigate complex requirements relating to hedgerows and provide improvements to this important habitat on development sites: https://lnkd.in/dvEF3HD8 #biodiversity #wildlifehabitat #natureconservation #wildlifehabitat #habitatmanagement

Through our Natural Area Acquisition Program we've invested over $53 million into acquiring more than 4,522 hectares of natural area. Our program focuses on securing sites in critical locations including: - corridor pinch points - areas of priority species habitat - linkages between high value strategic natural areas - conservation areas that are under greatest threat. It's one of the ways we're ensuring the long-term viability of our wildlife corridors and priority species. Explore how else we're protecting #ournaturalcity 👉 https://citygc.au/3VLE3Id

Another "movement" to celebrate here in #Massachusetts ... "Pollinator gardens have grown from a plea to protect wildlife into a blossoming movement. Homeowners and municipalities in western Massachusetts are 'killing their lawns' and replacing the grass with trees, bushes and wildflowers that bees, butterflies and bugs rely on. These gardens grow into #ecosystems, supporting native species who continue to lose habitat in the face of climate change, development and invasive species. “'[It’s about] getting people to redefine #aesthetics,' Adams said. 'People look at a vast green lawn and say, ‘oh, that’s beautiful,’ when in fact it’s a biological wasteland. Some people look at a meadow and say it’s so wild and not tamed and not America, but to us it’s just beautiful.'” ... "The movement has expanded to beyond neighborhood backyards to include a program run by the state Department of Conservation and Recreation called Going Wild. Now in its fourth year, the program encourages residents about enhancing and preserving #pollinator habitats. "Additionally, proposed legislation on Beacon Hill calls for a special commission to study statewide opportunities for enhancing and expanding pollinator habitat in both developed and natural areas such as farm field borders, forest borders, residential areas, parks, urban areas, industrial areas, energy transmission corridors, energy generating facilities and transportation corridors.
