This membership reflects our ongoing commitment to upholding best transparency and governance practices. 📣 We are also delighted to share that we are ranked 11th among 43 REITs and Business Trusts in the Singapore Governance and Transparency Index (SGTI) 2024 with a base score of 75 and an overall score of 96, up from 16th place in 2023. The SGTI assessment, conducted annually by CPA Australia, NUS Business School’s Centre of Governance and Sustainability and SID, is the leading index for assessing corporate governance practices of Singapore-listed companies. This year’s assessment included stricter assessment criteria with greater emphasis placed on sustainability disclosures and practices. Our Impact Report outlines how B Corps in Singapore outperform ‘business-as-usual’ in creating sustained benefit for all stakeholders – people, communities and the planet. More strategic, innovative models of philanthropy are emerging in Asia as philanthropists seek to drive sustained impact, deploy their money more systematically, and accelerate sustainable solutions. Families and foundations are also forming enduring partnerships and appointing experienced administrators to head their giving operations. In Asia, the explosion of new wealth in recent years has increased the potential of the region to add to this pool, though charitable giving in the region has thus far been slower to materialize. Commissioned by RBC Wealth Management, The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) undertook a study of 1,051 high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs), including 220 respondents in parts of Asia (China, Hong Kong, and Singapore), from March to May, 2018. The survey explores how the meanings of legacy and wealth are being redefined across regions, genders and generations. Addressing Ageism in Zimbabwe's Corporate World Tinashe raises an important issue prevalent in Zimbabwe's corporate sector: the use of arbitrary and unscientific cutoffs to disenfranchise certain segments of society. Age is often one such factor, and it can significantly impact individuals' opportunities. An interesting phenomenon related to this is the "discontinuity effect," where a small change in age, such as from 39 to 40, leads to significant differences in treatment and opportunities. This highlights how minor differences can have substantial and often unfair consequences in the professional realm. It’s time we rethink these practices to create a more equitable work environment.

What an impact! ♻️ Bates Wells, London law firm, fellow B Corp, and all-round sustainability sheroes and heroes, just released their 2023/2024 Impact Report, updating us on their journey to be a “force for good in our communities”. 🏆 When they say “force for good” they mean it. Bates Wells is one of the top firms acting for charities. They were also the first law firm to become a B Corp, work with over 130 B Corps, and, in fact, they authored the legal requirements for B Lab UK! ❓ How do they ensure they embed their values in everything they do? 👋 Taking care of their people. Bates Wells continuously monitor the diversity of their workforce and have implemented various strategies to attract top talent to a workforce that’s 69% women and 28% from ethnic minority backgrounds. Some examples include easing access with part-time contracts, a Solicitor Apprenticeship Programme to nurture early careers, and ensuring a contextualised recruitment process. 💪 Supporting society’s change makers. Bates Wells champion NGOs, for example, enabling the Horniman Museum to return 72 Benin Bronzes to Nigeria. They also provided charities large and small with legal advice to define safe campaigning activities in the run-up to the latest UK general election. 👂 Taking care of the environment. Our ears are burning a little on this one! With Grain’s help, Bates Wells set a verified Science-Based Target to reduce baseline emissions by 50% by 2023 and by 90% by 2050. They’re also helping bring nature back with their work with the Knepp Wildland Foundation on the Dur River Recovery Project. 👣 Inspiring clients and suppliers.
