Four months ago, I met with José Esteban del Corral Sánchez, CEO of KeyZell, to share our visions about the ongoing transformation in medicine. I had heard fantastic things about KeyZell, and that meeting confirmed them✔️. KeyZell is the company leading what we call precision medicine on a global scale. They are renowned for their focus on personalized cancer treatments. From that meeting, a connection emerged between both of us and our organizations. We believe that together 💡 we can share knowledge and experiences. We both utilize AI and share an obsession with seeking technology-based health solutions. When we began planning the launch of VivaWell five years ago, one of the fundamental pillars we defined was to establish partnerships with other tech-based startups. We did this a few months ago with Shen.AI, and now with KeyZell. At VivaWell, we believe that collaborative environments are crucial for transforming health. 👉 And that’s exactly what we are doing. Note that Carta captures only about half of funding, so the actual figure is likely 1.5X-2X higher. It's quite remarkable that we're already in the top 10, but we must continue to focus on expanding our infrastructure, scaling our talent pool, and telling our story. 💡 Insights from Local Builders and Innovators Tonight, on CBS Austin, Walt Maciborski features Emerald Cloud Lab on "Tech This Out." They'll discuss Emerald Cloud's innovative model, its support for bio and life science companies of all sizes, and their recent move to Austin. During the segment, I'll also be sharing my commentary on why this development is a significant milestone for our community. 🤝 Partnerships and M&A L7 Informatics was chosen by Cellipont Bioservices to help it optimize its cell therapy development manufacturing processes. 🏆 Recognition Autonomize AI was named a finalist in SXSW Pitch 2024 in the AI, robotics, and voice category. Houston-based, Coya Therapeutics, Inc. announced a pipeline expansion of COYA-302, now including treatments for Frontotemporal Dementia and Parkinson’s Disease in addition to ALS. Plano-based, AnX Robotica Corp has received expanded FDA clearance for adults and children aged 2 years for their Navicam, a small bowel video capsule endoscopy. Next week, I'll be attending the BIO International Convention in San Diego. Since the last BIO in San Diego it has been a journey of highs and lows, and while our recent ALS study didn't achieve the results we hoped for, our mission is still there. In the biotech world, investors often seek 🦄s – rare and transformative breakthroughs that change the landscape of healthcare. Two years ago at this same conference, I captured a picture of a 🦄 balloon that symbolizes not only those extraordinary successes, but also the magic you feel as a child when you get such a balloon (at least I did) and which we still need in biotech. Today, my company might not be a 🦄 in the traditional sense, but we embody the same qualities of innovation, dedication, and the relentless pursuit of better solutions. We are committed to tackling neurodegenerative diseases, and while ALS remains a tough challenge, we continue to push forward. Currently, we have an ongoing clinical study in Alzheimer's disease and more pharmacology studies in the pipeline, reflecting our unwavering commitment to making a difference in the lives of patients and their families. I'm looking forward to meeting fellow innovators and leaders in San Diego, sharing insights, and exploring new opportunities for collaboration. As we approach the end of 2023, we would like to take a moment to acknowledge and reflect on this year, the first for BioLink Intelligence. 2023 has been a journey filled with challenges, learnings and many achievements and we would like to thank all of you who have supported us in embarking on this new endeavor. We would also like to thank our customers who placed their trust in us - we are deeply grateful for this. BioLink was founded to address a real problem which will hopefully make the world a little better and support many mid-size and Biotech companies in delivering their groundbreaking therapies more quickly to patients. Healthcare innovation is transforming the way diseases are detected and treated, today at an unprecedent scale, supported by new digital health technologies and the continuous maturation of new modalities. BioLink Intelligence supports these companies in acting as a sponsor, setting-up the required infrastructure for their organizations and their clinical trials, supporting them in framing their development ideas and optimizing their protocols. Our goal is to listen, bring in our experience and knowledge and find tailored solutions which support them in moving successfully ahead – a simple idea which will hopefully make a big difference. We at BioLink are very proud to have a very diverse team, each member complementing the others to form a better whole. As I leave Chigaco, I reflect back on my impressions from the engaging and enlightening 3 days at Oliver Wyman’s Health Innovation Summit #OWHIC23.   The key takeaway: The largest global healthcare market, the US, is in poor health and the prognosis is not good, unless we do something. This will not just affect healthcare provision but also all of the global life sciences industries that are selling their innovations.   US healthcare is going to come under severe pressures in the coming years. It will encounter a tipping point, as the population ages, causing increased demand for healthcare and care services, at a time when the dependency ratio will decline from 3:1 to 2:1, and fewer medical professionals enter the workforce.   We will need to find new ways of delivering care, freeing up doctor’s time, and smartly deploying innovative medicines. The recent breakthrough medical innovations in Alzheimer’s, Cell & Gene Therapy, and obesity require drastically different care pathways, and infrastructure, that cannot yet be provided by today’s healthcare providers at scale.   New technologies, such as AI, are being deployed to free up medical professionals’ time for essential care and deliver diagnostic and treatment choice support, as well as drive other efficiencies in the system. We saw some promising use-cases, but the challenge will be to roll them out and adopt them more widely.   We also saw some pioneering approaches by individual doctors and health institutions to counter medical misinformation on social media. In effect by “competing” for  subscribers on social media platforms and attracting them channels with accurate medical con and entertaining medical content. This will be a crucial vehicle to engage the next generation of patients, and guide them towards the appropriate channels.   One thing is for sure: We cannot continue as we do today. The different stakeholders in the industry will need to work together, to find out what works and how to scale it. Two key ingredients will be needed: Courage by groups of individuals to try something new, and the leadership to enable the room for meaningful experimentation by these pioneers.
