The center of Hurricane Hone will pass just south of the Big Island of Hawaii today. Strong winds will continue on the Big Island through Hawaii's morning hours and may be locally damaging. Hone is expected to produce 6 to 12 inches of rain over mainly windward and southeast facing slopes of the Big Island, with locally higher amounts possible. Life-threatening surf and rip currents will continue through Sunday as Hone continues westward. As hurricane Beryl, a Category 5 hurricane approaches us in the Cayman Islands, I would like to share some technical tips for weathering this storm... 1) Securing Multiple Mobile Providers: Having SIM cards from two different network providers can be a lifesaver during a hurricane. Network coverage can vary, and one provider may have better service than another in a given area. If one network goes down, you’ll have a backup option to stay connected. This can be particularly useful for sending SOS messages, updating your status to family and friends, or receiving important updates about the hurricane. 2) Weather Apps and Websites: Use weather forecasting apps and websites to stay updated on the hurricane’s path and intensity. These platforms provide real-time updates and alerts that can help you prepare and respond effectively. My preference would be Windy.com & App 3) Emergency Alert System: Ensure your mobile device is set up to receive emergency alerts. These alerts can provide critical information about local emergencies and official instructions on what to do. 4) Backup Power: Consider investing in a good quality power bank or generator. Power outages are common during hurricanes, and having a backup can keep your devices running. 5) Data Backup: Back up important data to the cloud or an external hard drive. This ensures your data is safe and accessible from any location, even if your devices are damaged. 6) Communication Apps: Have communication apps like WhatsApp, Skype, or Zoom installed and set up on your devices. These can be used to stay in touch with family and friends, especially if traditional phone lines go down. #StaySafeCayman #LogicCommunication

As the weather begins to warm across Northern New England, now is the time to prepare for summer storms ahead. Last year brought a barrage of wind and rain across parts of our region. ⛈️ ⛈️ The Atlantic Hurricane Season officially runs from June 1 through November 30 and early forecasts indicate there could be a near-record number of storms this year. Experts even warn that the first named storm could form before the season begins. They are calling for as many as 25 named storms with 4 to 6 having a direct impact on the U.S. Download the free Red Cross First Aid app so you’ll know what to do if emergency help is delayed and the free Emergency app for weather alerts, open Red Cross shelter locations and safety steps for different emergencies. Choose whether you want to view the content in English or Spanish with an easy-to-find language selector.
