Are you ready for more juicy information? Zoe Wells, Senior Early Careers Executive, and Aidan Ward-Hendry, Careers Executive at ICAEW provided a session on transferable skills and how we can display them in the workplace. They highlighted that transferable skills are a core set of skills and abilities that can be applied to a wide range of different jobs and industries. In the workplace, skills such as teamwork, professionalism, commercial awareness, and decision-making & problem-solving are crucial. Teamwork, for instance, showcases that you are a communicator, leader, collaborator, delegator, planner, and active listener. Sometimes, we encounter situations where we need to make decisions like managing multiple deadlines or seeking help when needed. Learning new skills is essential as it demonstrates a positive attitude towards learning and proactiveness in acquiring new skills. They introduced questions that I can use to evaluate myself on what people skills I have such as: 🌟Do you have a genuine interest? 🌟Are you emphathetic? 🌟Are you a strong communicator? 🌟Can you relate to others? 🌟Are you supportive? Answering these questions would then identify when people skills have been demonstrated which would be in situations like: 🌟Adapting the way you communicate depending on who you are speaking with 🌟Working in a team during a task/project or a team sport 🌟Attending a social event and talking to people you haven’t met before Developing professionalism is also essential to display in the workplace which can be achieved by: 🌟Using business language in communications 🌟Being open and honest 🌟Being trusted to make a decision In addition, they bigoted ways in which we can improve commercial awareness such as reading about the employer in the news, understanding the industry the emoloyer works in and getting on LinkedIn. Less than a moment in, and I'm overwhelmed with appreciation. As we embrace the second day of Ramadan, my heart fills with gratitude .I'm truly blessed to work alongside such a supportive and understanding team. I've been feeling a mix of emotions, particularly missing the cherished traditions of gathering with loved ones for suhoor and iftar. In these moments of homesickness, the kindness and curiosity of my colleagues have been a source of comfort and strength. Their willingness to learn about my culture, ask questions, and share in the spirit of Ramadan mean more to me than words can express. It's a gesture that bridges gaps and builds understanding. Here at Scantec, inclusivity isn't just a buzzword—it's practiced. The accommodations made to respect my practices during Ramadan genuinely touch me. A private space for prayer within the hustle of work life? It's more than convenience; it's a silent nod of respect, a recognition of diversity that Scantec authentically endorses. From adjusting schedules to ensure I'm not overwhelmed while fasting, to the genuine interest in the traditions and cuisine that mark this holy month, my colleagues' efforts to embrace cultural diversity inspires me. It makes the challenging days of fasting pass with a sense of camaraderie and solidarity I hadn't expected in a professional environment. Hi everyone 😉, I'm relatively new to this platform and I'm wondering if it's allowed for me treat my Linkedin profile as a my second personal Twitter? hehe. Of course, I understand the need to keep things professional and show a different side of myself here, particularly my professionalism within the industry. To be honest, I'm not entirely sure how or where to begin when it comes to sharing about myself on Linkedin, however, thanks to the Maybank Ambassador program, which encouraged me to create this profile, although I know I should have started earlier, perhaps even back in my first year of degree. But as they say, better late than never, right? To start off, I often feel like there is nothing particularly interesting about me because my life lacks 'drama'. Sometimes I wish it were a bit more exciting, but I am so grateful because my life has been blessed with the kindest people ever, from family to my friends and my boyfriend hehe. Recently, my friend have labeled me as a 'loud introvert', and I can't disagree. While I may appear reserved, I do have moments where I'm vocal and enjoy social interactions. But overall, I recharge best in quieter settings. People often mistake my reserved nature for arrogance and find me difficult to approach. However, those who get close to me discover that I bring joy and laughter to their lives. Just ask Qaisara and Seri. Furthermore, even if I may appear to be playful, believe me when I say that I will bring a lot of ideas to the table in order to ensure that the projects or assignments are excellent and successful. To be honest, I love getting recognition for my job. That is why, rather than simply following and agreeing with other people's perspectives, I will do my best to contribute physically and express creative thoughts, in which eventually I will be satisfied with the outcome. Plus, I prefer to keep myself occupied during the holidays, which is why I actively take part-time jobs on weekends when I am not participating in any extracurricular activities. I find fulfillment in being productive, which not only helps me to learn new skills and knowledge but also earns me extra money. My work experiences provide you a lot: I don't like spending weekends at home doing nothing. That's about all I can think of sharing about myself at the moment. While I may not be the most outgoing person, given the chance, I'm eager to showcase different facets of my personality and am always open to learning new things.
