***24 hour challenge - Wed 31st Jan*** It's that time of year again when I realise I have no time left to train for the annual University College Birmingham 24 hour endurance challenge! The culmination of the UCB Health 100 January challenge, this year's event will be supporting Breast Cancer Now, a research and support charity. It's time to do something uncomfortable for those affected by this disease. Please share the important message to check yourself regularly. Touch, look, check (https://lnkd.in/eXQg53Sz): Anyone can get breast cancer. Get to know your normal by checking your breasts regularly. Touch your breasts Look for changes Check anything new or unusual with a GP What's your normal? I have set my challenge to 100 miles cycling, 100 km rowing, 100 x 100 kg deadlifts, 100 sit ups and 100 press ups (and anything else linked to 100 if I have time). Sunday was #WorldCancerDay, a day representing the impact on people globally who suffer the consequences from cancer, either directly or through those they love. More people than ever are now surviving cancer due to critical research, but this research can’t continue without our help.   After the success of 2022, I have signed on to undertake the continuous 100km solo again – this time for Cancer Research on June 8th-9th 2024. This is part of the #UltraChallenge2024 which are a recognised series of immense challenges to support charities across the country. The challenge will involve covering a distance of 100km (62 miles) over 2.5km elevation (or ~2.3 Snowdon’s) and will take somewhere between 24-30 hours, continuing the journey through the night.   Those of you who spoke or saw me after last time I did this know it was no easy feat, it took me 31 hours, along with plenty of tears and losing part of a toe! The aim this time is to be quicker, and hopefully keep more toes…   I know times are hard but any amount you can spare no matter how small or big, will be unreservedly appreciated. Alternatively, any support/advice you can offer would also be appreciated, along with any playlist and/or podcast recommendations for the journey. It’s the first of @frocktober_ocrf - a great excuse for me to don this amazing 60s frock, tailored in Hong Kong - and for you to kick start my fundraising efforts. https://lnkd.in/gxybSJP6 This is my fourth year raising awareness and funds for #ovariancancerresearch and there is still so much to do. The current 5year survival rate for ovarian cancer is 49%. We can change that by funding medical research for early detection and treatment.
