Senior Vice President - Financial Advisor of the Empower House Financial Group at RBC Wealth Management
Did you know in Massachusetts, only 1.4% of charitable giving goes to organizations that serve women and girls? That is pitiful and why a group of local business women (myself included) are doing something to change that through the Women’s Foundation of Boston (WFB). WFB raises much-needed funds and distributes 100% of those dollars to existing local organizations to amplify their work in the economic empowerment of women and girls. Our grantee partners include Women’s Money Matters, Invest in Girls, Science Club for Girls, Strong Women Strong Girls, Girls Who Code, Economic Mobility Pathways, Center for Women & Enterprise, Women’s Lunch Place, and 22 others. All grants are dispersed in the areas of STEM education, leadership/mentoring, and financial empowerment (<---------Now you know what drew me to this amazing organization a few years ago and why I decided to become an Advisory Council Member.) Last week, I had the honor of hosting the Women’s Foundation of Boston with over 100 donors/supporters and over 20 grantee partners to celebrate the impact the WFB has made in the lives of over 16,000 women and girls across Massachusetts through the $6.1M in multi-year grants that have been awarded. And we are just getting started. If you want to join me in moving that needle way above 1.4%, please message me. There is a lot to be done and a lot we can do. It’s nearly impossible to craft a compelling case for support without this: ✴️A cogent vision with clear stakes✴️ #Donors with capacity receive requests for donations left and right, and your case for support must stand apart from the rest by demonstrating: ➡️That there is a clear problem with something in the world today. ➡️Why your organization is uniquely positioned to address the problem. ➡️That realizing your organization’s vision will have measurable positive outcomes. But having a clear vision–and a clear case–is what sets your organization apart from the many others that might simply be going through the motions to hit goals. Do yourself a favor and set aside the time and energy it requires to fully flesh out a vision; it will pay dividends when it comes time to make the case to donors. — 👉 Your turn: What tools do you use to share your organization’s vision with your donors? — At #Weiswood Strategies, we partner with colleges, universities, and other nonprofits on communications strategies that increase contributions and deepen donor relationships. A recent analysis from McKinsey & Company indicates that giving intended to advance racial equity continues to miss communities with the greatest need – and these are disproportionately communities of color. These insights reinforce our firm's early research, The Giving Code, by providing a deeper look into how growing philanthropy continues to not be connected to communities most in need. We believe this dynamic will only change when philanthropies start explicitly funding communities of color and working in partnership with community leaders to support solutions.
