In the past decade, we've made great strides for LGBTQ+ equality. However, in the last two years, record amounts of legislation targeting LGBTQ+ rights have been proposed across the United States. This climate of anti-LGBTQ rhetoric is exacerbating the mental health crisis within the LGBTQ+ community, particularly among young people. The Upswing Fund for Adolescent Mental Health, powered by Panorama, has provided resources to organizations serving adolescents of color and LGBTQ+ youth, focusing on culturally responsive and affirming care. The Trevor Project recently released their 2024 U.S. National Survey on the Mental Health of LGBTQ+ Young People, in time for and observance of #mentalhealthawarenessmonth. This year, over 18,000 voices shed light on the struggles and resilience of LGBTQ+ young people. Let’s be the allies they deserve. ◾ 39% of LGBTQ+ young people seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year - including 46% of transgender and nonbinary young people. LGBTQ+ youth of color reported higher rates than their White peers. ◾ 50% of LGBTQ+ young people who wanted mental health care in the past year were not able to get it. ◾ 90% of LGBTQ+ young people said their well-being was negatively impacted due to recent politics. We have to do better. Grateful for all the organizations, like Lost-n-Found Youth, working to build a better tomorrow for #lgbtqia+ youth. https://lnkd.in/gzmM2b7a
