The following two essays published by the Center for Space Policy & Strategy offer contrasting views on the military importance of the Moon and cislunar space. One author argues the U.S. Space Force should incorporate the Moon into its doctrinal and operational thinking. The opposing view recommends that Space Force avoid letting the Moon and cislunar space distract the service from threats and risks posed by other states to spacecraft in Earth’s orbit. After having written their essays, the external authors had the opportunity to review the opposing essay and offer a rebuttal. Sometimes we need to reflect what the Apollo program offered everyone now in aerospace besides the technology spinoffs and a surplus of cash in the industry for those challenging years. For example, it organized the existing military communications systems at various ranges and established a world-wide spacecraft tracking network infrastructure that we continue to enjoy to this day. Many aerospace companies were involved to create the best-in-class ground network and communications to relay both data and voice on which it was a lot easier to build upon and continue to upgrade to the systems currently in use both for Near Earth and Deep Space communications. Today, we have fostered a government-private sector relationship that has made every single dollar within NASA's annual budget impact more than before. This week U.S. Space Force Lt. Gen. David N. Miller, Jr., SpOC commander, visited the Starfire Optical Range located at Kirtland Air Force Base. AFRL provided an in-depth overview of their latest Space Domain Awareness research, to include advancements in laser guidestar adaptive optics used to correct turbulence in the atmosphere to image satellites. Space Delta 2 Detachment 2 co-located at the SOR demonstrated a Space Domain Awareness imaging mission using two laser guidestars to collect imagery of objects of interest in Low Earth Orbit. Starfire Optical Range leads research into laser-beacon adaptive optics for military uses and civilian applications, such as astronomy. It is a major component of the Air Force Research Laboratory’s support to the U.S. Space Force. After some review of current spacecraft and the International Space Station and a lot of math... My conclusion is that several Northrop Grumman's Cygnus Spacecraft loaded with only fuel, and no cargo, could boost the ISS to a much higher "Parking Orbit" where it could continued to be used for its primary functions and also be used to construct larger spaceships. Other roles could also be added such as the ISS being used for emergency supplies and fuel storage for Moon and Mars mission spacecraft. It is a much better option than spending 1 Billion plus to plunge the ISS into the Pacific Ocean. Asking America and the World: Would it be better to save the ISS or dump it into the Ocean?
