🏡📣 Attention all homeowners and association leaders! 📣🏡 Have you ever wondered about the rules and regulations surrounding emotional support animals in common ownership communities? 🐾🐶🐱 Well, wonder no more! Let's dive into this thought-provoking topic and explore the rights and responsibilities of both residents and associations. 🤔💼 🔹 Emotional Support Animals (ESAs) are not pets, but rather companion animals that provide therapeutic benefits to individuals with mental or psychiatric disabilities. They are protected by fair housing rules and must be accommodated by associations. 🔹 Associations can enforce rules regarding the behavior of ESAs, both inside residents' units and on common property. Just like with any therapeutic aid, reasonable control is necessary to ensure harmony within the community. 🚶♀️🐕 🔹 Finding the right balance is key! Association leaders must consider the needs of residents who desire a pet-free environment while also acknowledging the emotional support some individuals derive from their ESAs. It's a delicate task that requires fairness and patience from all parties involved. ⚖️❤️ Remember, if someone abuses the ESA rules to bypass pet restrictions, appropriate action can and should be taken. 🚫🐾 Association leadership, supported by legal counsel, can address any misuse of the system to maintain a harmonious living environment for everyone. 🙌🏻🏢 Let's continue to foster understanding and empathy within our communities, ensuring that the rights and well-being of all residents are respected. Three months into our new strategic plan, and check! Progress being made. Like most strategic plans, the proof's in the pudding. Plans aren't made to sit on a shelf. I'm super proud of the OHS team, who's making sure that doesn't happen. One of the pillars of the new strategic plan is to provide more second changes for all animals - and our community was pretty specific: they're concerned about homeless cats. So, we need to find out more, to figure out how best to help. Ottawa connections - can you help? YOU ONLY NEED ONE MINUTE! To achieve our goal, we've launched a very quick survey about outdoor cats. Well over a thousand responses to date - but our goals are lofty - we want five thousand! Help me out and respond yourself, and share the link!
