What is one step can you take in your complex situation today? People who step in instead of away are my heroes. And my encouragement. The complexity: response to people living outdoors. Why do we do it? How do we do it? Who are the decision makers? Who are the funders? How do we learn from the people living this experience and expand our plans to let them help write them? A few of the hundreds of questions. The step: one household that now lives in a home. A #housingfirst step toward stability, calling on people with passion and dedication, federal funds, donations, and many other resources. It's a huge effort that begins with a "simple" mission of "everyone needs a home." Way to go, CATCH Idaho! Here's to 2024.
See all those tiny houses? 👀 Each one represents a household that is no longer experiencing homelessness 🧡🏠 “2023 was our biggest year yet! We proudly provided housing for a record-breaking 225 households, surpassing our previous record by an astounding 52 households! This monumental achievement marked a significant milestone in our relentless pursuit of making home a reality for every individual in the Treasure Valley.” - Stephanie Day, CATCH Executive Director Huge thank you to our staff, partners, volunteers, supporters, and community for making this work possible. Together, we are, and we will continue, to change lives 🧡🏠 To learn more about our impact last year, visit our website and read our 2023 Annual Report: https://lnkd.in/d9uCeveW

On Wednesday, February 7th, the Red Oak DEI Action Committee hosted a special screening of the documentary, A Rising Tide. The film reveals, through the eyes of children and their families, the survival strategies they are forced to endure while struggling with homelessness in Alameda County. The film also shares the work and the challenges faced by local service providers, shedding light on the “helping industry” that has developed from the housing crisis here in the East Bay. The Wallich fully supports laws which make life better for renters, people vulnerably housed or experiencing homelessness. We categorically do not want to see the Renting Homes Act scrapped. BUT unintended consequences of the legislation must be addressed by Welsh Government. On the White Paper proposals, we believe it’s a good start but should go further. Legislation change alone will not solve all the issues the sector is facing but it will remove arbitrary barriers that perpetuate homelessness and make life harder for people experiencing it. Read our full blog on where we stand in the forthcoming policy debates about proposals to tackle homelessness in Wales: Opinion – Legislation will help people, but not the system struggling to support them: https://lnkd.in/eXzDwvRT Llywodraeth Cymru / Welsh Government Julie James Cymorth Cymru

How do we make the experience of homelessness short? Until we can tackle the root causes of homelessness, we will continue our vital work to make the experience brief. By supporting people to access housing quickly, we prevent prolonged rough sleeping and its harmful effects. In a landscape characterized by disconnection and isolation, partnership and collaboration are what drive successful outcomes.
This week, we got the call: DESC had beds open at The Gateway Emergency Shelter and could we help fill them? We immediately connected with Aurora Commons, another community partner, and between their clients and ours we were able to get 9 people off the streets of North Seattle in less than 36 hours. LCP's integrated partnership approach continues to benefit the wider landscape of homelessness service providers, and our clients are the ones who benefit most of all with speedier and more integrated service offerings. Thank you, DESC (Downtown Emergency Service Center) and Aurora Commons for your fast-acting work, and commitment to collaborative, community partnerships. #community #homelesslivesmatter

I spent my Christmas Eve feeding, clothing and talking to the homeless people in my community and this is what I learnt. 1. Resilience - Witnessing the resilience of the homeless community in London taught me that strength can be found even in challenging circumstances. 2. Human Connection - Spending time talking with homeless individuals highlighted the importance of human connection and the shared experiences that connect us all. 3. Gratitude - Engaging with the homeless population instilled a deep sense of gratitude for the privileges and comforts often taken for granted in everyday life. 4. Diverse Stories - Each person I met had a unique story, dispelling stereotypes and emphasizing the diversity within the homeless community, fostering empathy and understanding. 5. Community Support - Recognizing the impact of community support services underscored the significance of collaborative efforts in addressing homelessness and providing essential resources.

How do you end homelessness? First you need to see it, then listen to those who are or have experienced it, and then take action by including those people who have become expert through experience of homelessness. The principle of ‘nothing about us, without us’ should guide what you do next. For too many, homelessness is something you might walk past in city or town centres, but rough sleeping and street homelessnes is just the tip of an enormous iceberg of undeclared homelessness, floating in a sea of sofa surfing! We will need to be more radical, if we are to truly end homelessness in all its forms. This is why we created the Radical Housing Conference, to bring people who are taking action to deliver safe, civil, low-Carbon affordable homes for people in Housing need. We’re delighted to have Kate Farrell, Head of Housing Supply Strategy at Crisis give a keynote at Agile Homes Radical Housing Conference on the 12th & 13th of October! Joining Kate will be: Peter Merrifield CEO at SWIM: Support When It Matters Libby Eastley of Places for People And many more! Bringing between them lived experience of homelessness, storytelling and practical strategies and action in delivering reduction in homelessness in their day to day work. This conference follows quickly on from the recent publication of the Legislative Review for Ending Homelessness in Wales published by Crisis this week. The Welsh Assembly Government’s ambition to end homelessness in Wales will need creativity, determination and innovation! The Radical Housing Conference brings all three of these together in one place! Join us in person or online at: https://lnkd.in/gsrdnrTb Are you a Housing Radical? Day 2 of the Radical Housing Conference focuses on Homelessness as its first theme. We are delighted to welcome Kate Farrell of Crisis as our keynote speaker. Yesterday's report on Ending Homelessness in Wales highlights the urgency of collaborative action to meet people's most basic needs: safety, sustenance and shelter. Please join us next Friday in Bristol (or online) to join the conversation & our community of HousingRadicals! CALLING FOR UNIFICATION Homelessness is not an individual issue. It is a community issue. Our organization, Vision Possible, aims to conduct a God-given vision to help the homeless regain their lives and be productive citizens like you and me. However, no matter how ardently we desire to conduct the mission, we cannot do it alone. We need your involvement: We need your support to conduct the necessary tasks to resolve an insurmountable issue such as this. We realize this task is not minuscule; however, we firmly believe that collaboration between groups acting in solidarity to resolve this issue is attainable. We, therefore, solicit your assistance. We hope you will consider donating to Vision Possible to enable us to accomplish our mission at https://lnkd.in/gfSuCkA9 "Above all, keep loving one another earnestly since love covers a multitude of sins. 9 Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. 10 As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: 11 whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever." (1Peter 4:8-11)

Imagine going months without hearing your own name spoken. Our approach dealing with homelessness goes beyond the simple act of providing food and nourishment. → It's about recognizing their humanity and → Offering them the dignity and respect they deserve. The isolation and invisibility that often come with homelessness can be profoundly dehumanising. When we step out to help, It's not just about fulfilling basic needs But it's about making a genuine connection. → The simple act of acknowledging someone's presence, → Listening to their story, or calling them by their name can make a huge difference. It tells them that they are seen, heard, and valued. → Every smile, → Every conversation, → Every act of kindness helps bridge the gap between us, → Reinforcing that we are all part of the same community. Live Generously Umberto —---- PS. Follow Umberto Rosi for more stories on generosity, and kindness.
