You may or may not have noticed the little tweak in my headline recently. Yep, that's right—I’ve stepped into the role of Engagement Director for England at CITB. Saving the big reveal for a full post, as you know me. But what does this all mean? Let me break it down. First off, I've got some big shoes to fill—thanks, Wendy Osborn! I'll be working alongside my brilliant colleagues in Scotland Ian Hughes BA (Hons) FRSA and Wales Julia Stevens, as well as the wider CITB engagement team led by the brilliant Deborah Madden. Together, we’re on a mission, and it’s one I’m incredibly passionate about: → Supporting the construction industry to develop a skilled, competent, and inclusive workforce. → Bridging gaps in training and development. → Promoting equality, inclusion, and diversity. In my years of experience, I’ve seen a lot of change and growth. From community initiatives to entrepreneurial startups and major construction projects, one thing remains constant: the need to have a skilled workforce. Here's what you can expect from me in this new role: Engagement: I’ll be working closely with industry professionals to understand their needs and challenges. So you all know today is a special day right? It's a bit of an inside joke that the only people who really know about Community Manager Appreciation Day are community managers themselves. So, here's a shout out to us for shouting out each other! 👏 I want to give a special mention to Nicola Earle, my incredible cheerleader and accountability buddy. Our monthly calls have become an essential part of my journey, offering both support and motivation. Thank you, Nicola, for being awesome! But what does it really mean to appreciate your community manager? For me personally, receiving personalised feedback and heartfelt thank-yous means the world. It validates the effort and passion I put into my role every day. But it also looks like: Jumping into conversations and sharing your thoughts – your engagement is what brings our community to life. Community engagement is really about building trust, and improving and maintaining good relationships through cocreation of sustainability solutions anchoring business activities in their environment.
