Our Eastern Team had a fantastic time at the #PDQ Networking Event in Northampton earlier this week. Thank you for the great presentations from SCAPE, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire & Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust (BBOWT), and Howes Percival discussing a variety of planning topics including biodiversity net gain, and changes to the #NPPF and housing targets which sparked some interesting conversations over lunch. We're looking forward to the next one! #PaulBashamAssociates #Networking #PropertyDevelopmentQuarterly #EasternRegion #Cambridge

"It’s not the first time we’ve heard newts being used as the scapegoat for development delays. But, let’s be clear, it’s simply not true. "There are many good examples of development and wildlife conservation going hand in hand. Our own work with the Newt Conservation Partnership is a prime example of how a well thought–out and expertly–delivered strategy can be a win-win for nature and economic growth." Our CEO Professor Jeremy Biggs responds to the Chancellor's speech on proposed planning reforms. Read his comments: https://lnkd.in/ej6pfPdh

I am thrilled that the launch of our Finance Solution Inventory is just around the corner! 🌿💼 Navigating the world of nature financing can be overwhelming with terminology overload, a proliferation of reports and vague explanations. That's why we developed a Finance Model to provide practical guidance on finance solutions for nature. Our Inventory is tailored for end-users who seek to understand and implement impactful finance solutions for conservation. We are dedicated to continuous improvement, ensuring user-friendly and practical materials. Feedback is encouraged to enhance usability and relevance and keep us iterating. Collaboratively designed, the Inventory showcases solutions from various organisations and experts, evolving with additional solutions and user feedback. Your input is valued as we strive for clarity, simplicity and practicality. We welcome feedback on simplifying jargon, reducing unnecessary information, ensuring practicality, suggesting new solutions for the Inventory and exploring opportunities for involvement. Let's work together to make a difference in nature conservation! 🌍💡 #FinanceSolutions #NatureConservation #FeedbackWelcome

We see giants, they see their home. Elephants, the gentle giants of the savanna, often wander into our communities, sparking fear and frustration. But let's pause for a moment and consider their perspective. They're not invaders; they're simply searching for food and water, just like us. Through community-led conservation efforts, we're forging a new path—one where humans and wildlife thrive together. By fostering understanding, empathy, and sustainable practices, we're creating a future where elephants are not seen as adversaries, but as partners in conservation. #wildlifeconservation #communityLedConservation

Why are we creating habitat for great crested newts? 🦎 Great crested newts are the largest of the UK’s three native species of newt and are a great indicator of the health of a water source – they will travel up to 1km to find the right pond. Over the last 100 years, great crested newts have disappeared from many sites right across Europe, mainly because of pond loss and intensive agriculture. Alongside delivering Natural England's own District Level Licensing scheme, we are working with Nature Space Partnership NatureSpace Partnership (NSP) and Newt Conservation Partnership Newt Conservation Partnership (NCP) to share knowledge and evaluate the outcomes of the schemes. NCP create and restore ponds for great crested newts under the NSP District Licensing scheme. Monitoring of the partnership’s ponds already shows they are supporting great crested newts and a variety of freshwater invertebrates. We’re excited to share the hard work that’s come out of our partnership with Nature Conservancy of Canada/Conservation de la nature Canada, with the announcement of a new species distribution modelling framework. We're taking big steps for wildlife protection! 🌱 With the support of Manulife Investment Management and in alignment with their Impact Agenda, NCC has developed a powerful tool to help protect wildlife across Canada: a species distribution modelling framework. What does this mean? It's all about gathering information on where species live and the environmental factors they depend on, then using that data to predict the best habitats for them. Check out the video below to see how this partnership has helped us reach an important milestone in our efforts to protect Canada's biodiversity!

That’s right. Measuring biodiversity is critically important to enable us to manage and value nature as we work towards a world that is nature-positive. 👍 to collaborations like this between Manulife Investment Management and Nature Conservancy of Canada/Conservation de la nature Canada.

Project to create new 'insect superhighways' A new project to boost insect populations across North Yorkshire by creating wildlife "superhighways" has been launched. The GrubsUp! scheme will link land in the North York Moors National Park along the A170, which connects Thirsk and Scarborough. Covering 200 square miles (520sqkm), the project will include planting native hedgerows, restoring grasslands and creating ponds and wetlands. Holly Ramsden, project officer for the programme, said insect populations had "seen alarming declines in abundance and species richness" in recent years: https://lnkd.in/erje3BDE #wildlife #biodiversity #habitat #environment #insects #ecosystems #savethebees

Sharing some news! Today I joined Zoological Society of London (ZSL) as Head of Corporate Partnerships to support ZSL’s work striving for a world where wildlife thrives - helping people and wildlife live better together. The world’s biggest challenges centre on consumption, conflict and climate change which are putting a huge amount of strain on our planet. There’s been a whopping 73% decline in the average size of monitored wildlife populations between 1970 and 2020. The 2024 Living Planet Index, compiled by ZSL scientists, evidences how habitats are declining - and that’s entirely on us. The message is clear – we are cutting away at the very foundations of life, but with urgent action and support we have the power to reverse this. The antidote to destruction is conservation. For nearly two hundred years ZSL has been working to restore wildlife across the world. To all our corporate partners I can't wait to meet you all and to start working together! And for anyone who wants to get into sustainability and conservation in a meaningful way, do drop me a line. It’s definitely something every organisation can support in some way. Sharing a pic from this morning’s walk to meet the wildlife - one of the delightful gibbons - at London Zoo where I am now based! #Sustainability #Conservation
