When are HR folks going to stop getting messages like, "Here's my resume, is there any opening you know?" 🤷♀️ When are they going to stop getting a bad rap for not responding to these messages?  🤷♀️ When will people realise that just because we are in HR, we may not necessarily know any open jobs and even if we do, we may not be able to do more than, share the profile across our network? 🤷♀️ Just because we are in HR, does it become our obligation to keep finding work for people? At what point does it stop being a favour and start becoming our responsibility? 🤷♀️ As job searchers, can we not put in a little bit more effort in reaching out to the HRs in our network? Can we stop using the AI generated response that LinkedIn gives and start doing some research on the role/company/person?  🤷♀️ I'm not sure there's a right answer to these questions. What I do know is, nobody deserves anything. Nobody is entitled to anything. We all work hard. That does not mean we all get the same kind of results for our work. That's not how life works. All we can do is be humble, respectful and keep moving forward! 🙇♀️🏃♀️ We're not saying don't send us messages. We're not saying we wont help, What we're saying is, put in a bit more effort. And stop making us feel guilty for not helping you, just because you sent us a generic message 🙄 This post is not coming from a place of anger but from a place of disappointment. Disappointment in still seeing memes about HR not doing any work or HR not treating candidates well. It's 2024! I feel as recruiters, we should often attend interviews in other companies. It achieves 2 things - 1. You get to see different processes and update yours if necessary 📈 2. You'll know first hand what candidates go through. You get to put yourself in their shoes. Develops empathy I think 🙇♀️ For a lot of people, it's a nerve-wracking experience. Especially if you've been looking for a while. So to the candidates out there, I have just one suggestion. An interview is a 2-way conversation. As much as the company is looking for fitment, you should look for synergy as well. Speak from a place of power. Today marks my 3rd Anniversary milestone at Leadle! Wow, 3 years 😯 If I say, "I can't believe it's been 3 years, feels like just yesterday was my first day", that would be a lie. I can believe it, and I remember every moment of it. It did not fly past me 💥 If I say, "3 years, wow! The journey has been a roller coaster", that would be an understatement. I would describe it more like a symphony. There have been highs and lows, but it has all been woven into a beautiful piece of music 🎶 Ok I'll stop 😁 Overall, these 3 years have been some of the best in my professional journey. All this ranting about getting a job in 2024 and how "cruel" hiring managers are, and how many rounds of interviews you have to give. I've been seeing a lot of posts about this 🤔 All this is fair. It maybe be true in my case as well. I don't use an ATS and get close to 200 to 400 applications for all the jobs I post. I am human. I may not always remember to respond to people. I may not give everyone the exact feedback they need to get better or understand why things didn't work out. But I do try 🙇♀️ 🙏 Understood. But, what about how difficult it is to recruit people these days? 🤷♀️ If you're a recruiter, you either get ghosted, or you're one of the offers they're considering. They don't want to attend interviews with you cause you're "just an HR" or they don't want to submit an assessment because it's "beneath them". They accept, join, and leave in a few days/weeks because they feel their expectations don't match😮 😥 They call you out on public forums, for not responding or having a sub par interview experience, while they give a sub par experience to the interviewers by not being prepared about the role and company. If you belong to either side, just remember this, everyone is trying to do their best 🧘♂️ Has the job market become difficult, of course yes. But has right talent become more difficult to hire? That's also a yes ✅ At the end of the day, just like how people buy from people , people hire people (I mean, companies don't hire people). If you don't get an answer from someone, whether candidate or hiring manager, let it go. Maybe you haven't impressed them enough to keep you in mind and respond. Maybe they're caught in something personal and can't respond to every message they get. Maybe they haven't decided yet how to proceed and they're unsure how to tell you. It can be anything 😇 Keep 2 or 3 follow-ups as your max. If it's only silence you hear, Let. It. Go and move on. There are better things waiting for you. #hiring #talent #lansdcape #letitgo #people
