Featured on the agenda is: 🍔 Bob Langert (former VP of Corporate Responsibility at McDonald’s and TedTalk speaker) on how gained public trust in McDonald's following attacks on the brand by animal rights and environmental activists; ⭕ Nevin Truesdale (The Jockey Club CEO) on the 2024 Grand National rule changes and how he foresees them contributing to the historic race’s licence to operate long-term; 🐴 Roly Owers (World Horse Welfare CEO) presenting research findings on public perceptions of horse sport; 👥 Michael Bishop (Riding for the Disabled Association CEO) on social relevance as the missing piece of the puzzle to secure social licence; 🎓 Invades founder and MD Dom Matcham on social licence among gen Z and attracting the next generation of racegoers; 📣 A youth panel where young people from diverse backgrounds working within the sport will discuss social licence from a Generation Z perspective, contextualised by their personal experiences of accessing the sport; 🎤 An industry-wide social licence workshop led by Bob Langert; 🤝 Horseracing Leadership Panel featuring senior leaders responsible for the sport’s key decisions who will respond to the topics of the day and answer audience questions. 🎟Today is the last day to register for the event - do so by clicking here

What the Fundraising x Patagonia Last week when I was in Chicago, I got to stop by one of the Patagonia stores where I will be speaking later this year. I honestly can’t even believe I’m saying this right now and that this is real life, but starting in October (when my book comes out) I am going to be launching a new partnership with Patagonia where I am going to be going on a bit of a fundraiser training & book tour through their stores. If you didn’t already know this about Patagonia, they have huge nonprofit networks connected to their stores and they act as a bit of a hub for organizers, fundraisers, and nonprofit leaders to come together in the community and learn/collaborate/etc. They do so much for organizations beyond grant making and are truly a company that practices what they preach in every way. But they have never done something like THIS and I am so grateful for their advocacy, time, energy, and support to get What the Fundraising content into the hands of as many people as possible. I am seriously pinching myself. My stop by in Chicago was a bit accidental since I was there for Collaborative and realized at the last moment that I was .2 miles away from the stores I had talked to only 3 days before. I emailed them to let them know I was in the area and they graciously hosted me, Nathan Chappell, MBA, MNA, CFRE (their #1 fan!) and Dana Snyder at the last minute. Everything I teach in Power Partners is about building really meaningful and connected partnerships and relationships, and I realized this week that I’ve structured a lot of my business like a nonprofit with Power Partners. A lot of what I provide to nonprofits is free to them but made possible by incredible partners in the ecosystem who also care about their success. I really believe that a lot of us are out here wanting the same things for the world and our communities, I think alignment exists more than we realize. But we have to look for it, be open to it, and move on when there isn’t alignment. I am not for everyone. Not everyone wants to partner with me. That’s ok. Because being clear about who I am, my values, and who I want to work with has landed me the most incredible and aligned opportunities, like this newest one with Patagonia. (obviously they still should so as to gain audience!) Imagine a post with a smiling pit bull, sorry about his rescue, and an orange backdrop... People in animal welfare will probably assume what organization without being told. Brand goes beyond a color and a mascot, it incorporates a vibe. It can be difficult to balance branding with variety, and it can take time to achieve that level of success. You can, however, establish a clear brand recognition with your followers fairly easily.
