Lithium-ion batteries are particularly important because of their energy density, rechargeability and lifespan. #Lithium is produced in a variety of ways, depending on whether it is extracted in its pure form or from lithium compounds. In addition to extraction from lithium-bearing ores, extraction from salt lakes, also known as lithium brines, is an important method. These lakes contain high concentrations of lithium compounds, especially lithium chloride. After evaporation, the concentrated brine is purified and separated from other impurities to extract high value lithium compounds such as lithium carbonate or lithium hydroxide. Conversion Processes of Spodumene The critical step of the process has always been considered to be the extraction step. Since the beginning of the selective extraction of lithium, decrepitation has been considered a minor step of the process where only minor improvements could be made. Hence, there is very little data on the behavior of spodumene with regards to the granulometry of the sample, the temperature of decrepitation, etc. There has been very little research on how to improve the decrepitation step of spodumene, many considering that the furnace heating in a rotary kiln is optimized. * Sodium-Ion Battery based on an Electrochemically Converted NaFePO4 Cathode and Nanostructured Tin–Carbon Anode: https://lnkd.in/gqFacsu5 Matching sodium olivine and tin: An electrochemically converted NaFePO4 olivine cathode and a nanostructured Sn–C anode are combined in an efficient, sodium-ion battery, characterized by a capacity of 150 mAh g−1, a voltage of 3 V and, consequently, a practical energy density estimated to be of the order of 150 Wh kg−1 Abstract: We report a new sodium-ion battery formed by coupling a NaFePO4 cathode and a nanocomposite tin–carbon (Sn–C) sodium-alloying anode. The NaFePO4 cathode is obtained by Li–Na conversion of a LiFePO4 cathode directly in the full cell employing the Sn–C anode and a sodium-ion electrolyte. The results show that the unique approach adopted here is capable of successfully and efficiently converting LiFePO4 into NaFePO4 in a sodium-ion battery operating at a voltage of 3 V, with a maximum reversible capacity of 150 mAh g−1, high reversibility, and high rate capability.

🔋 An excellent overview of the geographical distribution of #EVBattery and #MaterialSupplyChains, published in #Nature. 🔎 The study examines the relationship between electric vehicle battery chemistry and supply chain disruption vulnerability for four critical minerals: #lithium, #cobalt, #nickel, and #manganese. It compares the #nickelmanganesecobalt (#NMC) and #lithiumironphosphate (#LFP) cathode chemistries by mapping the supply chains, calculating a vulnerability index, and using network flow optimization to bound uncertainties.
