Thank you Bunny Ellerin, Anand Gan, and the Digital Health New York team for inviting Meg Barron (Managing Director, Engagement & Outreach) and David Silk (Managing Director, Strategic Operations) for a lively discussion around key findings from PHTI’s virtual musculoskeletal (MSK) solutions assessment. PHTI’s independent evaluations look at digital health solutions through a purchaser’s lens–aligning with our mission to inform purchasing decisions that accelerate the adoption of high-value technology in healthcare. One participant asked: “You’re capturing a lot of data...Is there any consideration when you do these studies that [digital health technologies] may not yield an ROI, but there is some valuable data that companies can use?” Listen to David Silk’s answer:

A valuable read for a Thursday (and not only)!📚 Nature Portfolio | Digital Medicine: "While large #healthsystems are increasingly looking to invest in digital health tools, the landscape of this field is very complex. The market for health-system-based digital health tool development includes not only many start-up companies but also several incumbents and entrenched players like large electronic health record (#EHR) vendors; there are innumerable regulatory-compliance considerations; and there are several unique barriers to the successful adoption of new #digitalhealth tools within these large, complex organizations. There is no clear framework by which health systems can evaluate the realities of selecting, building, and deploying a digital health tool in a complex system." 👉 Swipe right to find out more👉 "Deploying digital health tools within large, complex health systems: key considerations for adoption and implementation" Authors: Jayson Marwaha, MD, MSc, Adam Landman, Gabriel Brat, MD, MPH, Todd Dunn and William Gordon 📊 Get the article here: https://lnkd.in/ex-AcQf7

Sharing the first assessment from the Peterson Health Technology Institute (PHTI) on digital #diabetes management tools: https://lnkd.in/gKQdGUWA The assessments focus on filling a critical gap for independent and in-depth analysis of clinical impact, economic impact, and equity impact, among other factors. The goal? Raise the bar for digital health purchasing by helping those who pay for, provide, develop, or invest in digital health tools have a better understanding of what works, and for whom, and what is worth it. With better understanding, we can begin to see adoption happen at scale and patients receive the most impactful solutions possible. I recently got some fantastic news from mHealth: our paper, ‘𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞,’ has been viewed 63,000 times! It’s a highly cited study, and I’m thrilled that it’s still considered a benchmark in the field of digital health. Even today, I stand by what I wrote in 2017: digital health is primarily a cultural shift, not a technological one. If you’re interested, you can read the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/eV_3T9rt

Wow- finally someone is proving it! Stand alone diabetes apps that simply track, educate and remind are unlikely to be truly helpful. Why not? Likely some combination of (1) The patients using this are not the ones who really need it, and (2) Change is hard, and clinical outcome change likely involves much deeper work - including adjusting meds. What will this mean for Omada Health, Teladoc Health and similar... will their payors and employers start dropping their solutions quickly!? Meanwhile another research paper found multiple studies confirm telehealth (with real life providers!) actually can be better than office-based care to control hypertension. (https://lnkd.in/gugZnS9X). Now we are talking! Congrats to Meg Barron and the Peterson Health Technology Institute (PHTI) for this incredibly important work on formally researching Chronic disease apps- can't wait for your next one! #Research #DigitalHealth #RealDoctors #VirtualCare
