I was talking to a friend today and I've come to learn some people have this misconception on what a restaurant general manager is. A lot of my friends think we really just handle customer complaints, tell people what to do, and make food. We're so much more and wear so many different hats. In my role I'm: -part pizza maker who is devoted to product quality -part people leader who has to navigate and meditate the relationships and emotions of my team every day -part business analyst who has a huge part in forecasting my stores sales every week -part workforce analyst who has to determing who has to determine available working and time off hours based off said forecasts, scheduling employees, and nailing down volume peak and valleys to ensure optimal labor distribution -part marketer who's out every week to create partnerships with my neighborhood business, schools, churches, and connect with my customers, -part purchaser who ensures we order exactly what we need to avoid food waste and ensure responsible use of company funds -part HR who has the task of ensuring our work place is friendly and safe to all walks of life and sometimes handle the unfortunate task of discipline. -part customer relations who's responsible for building or maintaining our relationships with our customers. -part payroll who needs to be somewhat familiar with our states rules regarding pay, sick Leave, etc. -part recruiter who yearns to hire and build winning teams! ....and so much more! Am I expert in any one field? No! I'm a jack of all trades but boy do I have the base knowledge to be successful in any of those fields. Retail Rockstar Ready to Rise Above Challenges Being a retail assistant is all about building relationships, helping customers find what they need, and going the extra mile to create a positive shopping experience. But let's be honest, it's not always sunshine and rainbows. There can be some hurdles to overcome. Here are a few challenges retail assistants face, and how I'm prepared to tackle them: * Difficult Customers: Not every customer is a breeze to deal with. I'll stay calm, listen attentively, and diffuse any tense situations with professionalism and empathy. * Product Knowledge: Keeping up with inventory and new arrivals can be a challenge. I'm a fast learner and will actively seek out product knowledge to become a reliable source of information for customers. * Long Hours & Weekends: Retail schedules can be demanding. I'm a team player and understand the importance of flexibility to ensure smooth store operations. Beyond the Challenges: Despite these hurdles, there's so much to love about retail! 👩💼 So you think I'm JUST a Retailer 👩💼 I won't judge if you didn't know what I used to do all day, most people have no idea day to day what people do unless they are doing it! Kit Campoy is someone I've followed for a while now and she articulates perfectly why retail leaders shouldn't be overlooked. Below are some of my skills (or superpowers) from which being a #retailer has given me: ⚡ People Management: This is complex as a leader as you're involved in #recruitment, mentoring, #development, training and spend a lot of time giving advice. I have loved building relationships over my career and been privileged to watch many find their next exciting role! ⚡ Operational Management: It takes a lot to run compliant business inside a building! Rota's and resource management need to be planned, maintenance of the site needs to be kept up as well as being compliant with Health and Safety, Food Safety and a plethora of other regulations (business or outside authority). ⚡Data Analysis: Regularly using in house software to look at #sales trends, #shrinkage concerns, stock processing and the pay line. All with a laser sharp focus to improve the figures and set targets. Detailed analysis of the P&L, with potential to challenge unforeseen or irregular costs. ⚡ Customer Experience: An all encompassing driver. #availability of stock, the presentation of the shop, targeting customer feedback, working with the support teams to improve range, dealing with customer complaints. Most of these are used day to day without thinking, at pace and prioritising the most important. I'm pretty sure that skill set is in demand, come chat to me.
