Yesterday I spoke at an eXchange session organised by CIRCULAZE by CURAZE. After a first 15m input in which I shared a few examples of circular initiatives in fashion and what I found relevant about them, we opened the floor to a discussion. The selection of case studies that I touched on covered key learnings I also experienced first hand in my career innovating for circularity, such as: • From product to lifecycle design: break down complexity into smaller parts 🧩 • Don’t underestimate the power of individuals and communities to explore p2p solutions 👯👯 • Leverage consumers behaviours and misbehaviours in new initiatives • Implement nudges for behavioural change in the linear system • Always offer customers convenience first, sustainability second (or third, or fourth even) 💞 • Be transparent on the status of your initiatives and share your approach to the industry 🗣️ • Don’t forget the bigger picture: partnerships are key As expected, loads of questions about scale vs pilots, behavioural change and incentives, needed skills on the market and integration in the business came up and it was a very enriching discussion! Over the following year, Circularity will lead the joint project and work with Fraunhofer IZM and SYSTEMIQ Deutschland GmbH and 12 industry partners to develop a methodological framework and practical guide to assess the environmental impact of rental, repair and second-hand business models in the consumer electronics sector. The industry partners, namely Grover, rebuy, Everphone, Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone, Assurant, Foxway Group, Reverse Logistics Group (RLG), Ingram Micro, Recommerce Group, circulee, and FixFirst - The OS for Circular Services & Products will contribute practical expertise and proprietary data and ensure the development of a robust framework based on real industry insights. DBU Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt and Deloitte support the project as strategic partners and our associated partners, including ETH Zürich - SusTec, Circular Electronics Partnership, Energy Impact Partners, Circularity Capital, WWF and DIN Deutsches Institut für Normung e.
